This is a short introductory unit I run with my new A Level Buddhism students to give them an introduction to the religion and it’s key beliefs and concepts as it is new to most. The 6 x double lessons include:

2 hour lesson on the festival of Vaisakhi including information about the formation of the Khalsa and it’s importance to Sikhs today. Includes assessment tasks.
Originally designed for year 7 but could easily be adapted for other year groups.
Originally planned for year 9 this lesson considers examples of terrorist attacks carried out by Muslim extremists e.g. 9/11 and Manchester attacks. The question of to what extent it is fair to link Islam and terrorism is evaluated with reference to extremist and moderate Muslims.
This is a unit of 5 x double lessons (could easily be adapted for 10 single lessons) on the topic of good and evil originally planned for year 8 but could be easily adapted for other year groups.

KS3 lesson that considers the use of art in Islam and includes a creative task for students to create their own geometric design inspired by Islamic art.

For each topic 3 simple points are given (part a questions), each is then developed (part b questions) and then a source of authority given (part c and d questions).
This is a 4 page document (1 page per unit) and is aimed as a revision and recap tool (e.g. my students keep a copy in their pocket and look at it while waiting for the bus in the run up to the exam) rather than a comprehensive revision guide.

The issue is considered from an ethical perspective using case studies. Students consider facts about the topic, arguments for and against, and are encouraged to come to a justified personal conclusion.
