Nine gradients each revealing a letter to give the punchline to a cheesy joke. I suggest printing in A4 so it is more easily seen (A5 will almost certainly be too small unless your class routinely brings a magnifying glass to lessons).

Check Charlie’s solutions to eight different questions (Charlie has had two goes) and state why Charlie should be checking it and what they have done wrong. There is also space for students to complete their own solution (hopefully correctly). Topics include fractions (mixed numbers), percentage change, ratio, LCM, compound measures, proportion. These are designed to create discussion.

“Charlie” is learning how to check whether their solutions are sensible. They have had a go at some geometry questions and made mistakes, but can your classes explain why they’ve gone wrong and why their answer is not necessarily sensible. This is designed for years 7 to 9 and covers topics like Pythagoras, trigonometry, area, volume, angles.

Expanding brackets including surds essentially, and find the missing numbers. Do it all successfully and a cheesy joke is revealed.

This has the usual joke/discover the punchline format but you get the letters by plotting a distance-time graph and noting down the letters upon which you settle at each point. Hopefully a change will be as good as a rest…
