This worksheet checks pupils understanding of 4 digit numbers. It is designed to be used more at the end of a sequence of work on place value (4 digit numbers). Pupils should be encouraged to use place value cards and counters to help them understand, reason and explain what they are doing. The questions start quite fluency based testing students understanding of place value in numbers. They then have to find 10, 100 and 1000 more than given numbers. They then have to order numbers and identify values on a number line.

This worksheet is aimed at Y5 and looks at the effect of multiplying by 10. The worksheet encourages place value grids. Pupils will see the effect of multiplying by 10. Subsequent questions build on this as pupils move through the exercise. Similar concept can be used for dividing by 10, which should help pupils then generalise about multiply by 100 and 1000.

This worksheet can be used as pupils start their work on simple unit fractions. The worksheet gradually gets more involved as students identify simple unit fractions and then they start comparing. The worksheet shows the concept and the non - concept and pupils are asked reason their answers throughout.
