A set of comprehension questions based on an extract from Chapter 1 of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. The questions are designed to be accessible for most students, but can be easily adapted for older students by requesting that they add quotes and explanations to their answers. There is also an answer sheet to enable easy-marking, where possible.

A powerpoint talking students through how to write a letter of complaint. This explores a possible structure, and demonstrates how addresses should be correctly presented. Following the information section, there is a task asking students to write a letter of complaint about a mobile phone.

This scheme of work is designed to cover the various learning objectives linked to the new Edexcel GCSE English (9-1) curriculum for 19th Century Fiction. Contained in it are 12 lessons, each labeled with a skills focus and a theme, along with LO's and notes for each session. The Resources mentioned within the scheme are going to be added over the coming weeks, but R1 resources are aimed for students with a D grade, and R2 resources are aimed at students with E or below grades. The PREVENT opportunities sheet is created to support establishments in identifying links to the governments PREVENT agenda.

This task is originally designed for Functional Skills groups, or groups of intervention students who need support with basic tasks and following instructions. However, this is great for KS3 students, or groups who need a settling in or holiday task.

An activity sheet to help students prepare for their debate/discussion Speaking and Listening Task. The topics are phrased as questions and can be given one-by-one or all together, depending on the ability of the group.

An activity used by students to help aid their understanding of the themes of the play 'An Inspector Calls' and how the themes affect each character. Can be simplified or made more challenging easily, so suitable for all students.

A PowerPoint on the skill of predicting what might happen in a book, leaflet, etc. Students are asked to predict the contents of writing using various sources, and are able to identify primary and secondary elements in texts. The Activity 'What does the Cover say?' asks students to say what they think a book may be about from the cover&'s primary and secondary elements. * Image links are included and can be easily found on the internet.

An activity designed to help students understand difficult words. The students are asked to try and work out what the word means just by seeing it in a sentence/in context. Can be easily adapted, or students who are struggling can use a dictionary for additional support.

A quick guide to the basic punctuation marks and what they mean/are used for. Could be diasplayed on Classroom Walls or used as a prompt for students who are struglling individually.

A newspaper article and questions based on the event of the Escape from Alcatraz. Designed for GCSE students, studying 9-1 GCSE, the non-fiction element. Answers are included also.

A powerpoint to explain and demonstrate how writing triplets can be used to identify the purpose of any type of writing. Used with students to introduce the idea and give them an understanding of how they can use them in their writing.
