A PowerPoint and accompanying worksheet to help provide pupils with vocabulary to describe pros/cons of town vs. village - suitable for the IGCSE Edexcel course or as an extention material if looking at local area.

Some exercises with accompanying answer sheet for year 9 German grammar revision - it has been used in conjunction with Stimmt 3 to a certain extent, but would cover a range of key grammar points in a student’s third year of study. Possibly also useful for recapping key points at the start of year 10, too. A PowerPoint and worksheet looking at statements that apply to life in a town or village (countryside). Activities include a translation into French, 21 reading game (whole-class reading/listening activity whereby students read 1, 2 or 3 words; anyone who has to read a word by a full stop is out). Also included is a list of speaking questions, either to be completed in class or for homework.

3 paired dictations aimed to support beginners in reading and listening skills. Each dictation has 50 words, so they can check and give it a total out of 50, doubling to make a percentage. Pupils find this a low-stakes reading activity that is engaging and fun, working in pairs with an element of competition.

Two sets of translation (into German/into English) of increasing difficulty - can be set as homework, extension or revision. A range of topic areas covered.

A worksheet to practise using the verbs fernsehen and Rad fahren in the present tense for different subject pronouns. Links on from hobbies that take regular verbs e.g. Rugby spielen, schwimmen gehen etc. Explanation about separable verbs plus support vocabulary given to help with this translation task. Aimed at beginners but could also be used to revise these key verbs.

A reminder of how to form the present, passé composé, and near future tenses with regular er verbs. A table with endings provided plus a worksheet to apply this for regular verbs. Aimed at weaker pupils who struggle with differentiating between tenses and who need to focus on application of endings for regular verbs, rather than irregular or mixed practice.

A gap fill text that focuses on translating key words - answers provided. Suitable for those in year 7/8 working at a higher level and could be a homework or a revision aid.

A PPT with worksheet that looks at using ‘kann’ after ‘weil’ e.g. Ich mag mein Vorbild, weil er gut singen kann. A few visual supports on the PowerPoint to recap key vocabulary and encourage pupils to speak about their role-models. This would require pre-teaching of structures such as ‘nicht nur…sondern auch…’ and ‘sowohl…als auch’. I’ve used this with year 8/9 pupils, but it could equally make for a quick recap at GCSE, too.
