KS3 MFL Rewards system (an example that can be adapted)

Throughout the UK, it is a struggle to get students to continue with languages… Many reasons for this, most of them cultural, not enough space here to go into details. This is an example of a booklet that KS3 students would keep with them relying on a system of stickers awarded (stickers could be replaced by comments) and test results. The idea is that by the time it’s options evening/ options choice time in Year 9, students would have a record of what they have achieved and how well they did. It is also good PR with parents, management etc… to show positive tracking. The document can clearly be adapted to suit any school.

Job interviews French - entretiens d'embauche - L'emploi

Ideally this PowerPoint would be used with the extract of the 2011 film Intouchables by Olivier Nakache and Éric Tolédano with François Cluzet and Omar Sy. Very early on in the film there is a job interview scene where Driss and other candidates come for a job interview at Philippe’s home. The PowerPoint looks at the vocabulary used to talk about one’s qualifications and relevant hobbies. It can be used without watching the film too. Part of it deals with gender agreement and the pronunciation of the sound r in French.

Group challenge/ tutor group challenge to encourage people to talk, bond, be sociable

The principle is quite simple: talk to people you don’t often talk to or you don’t talk to at all with the hope to either use your social skills or learn new ones and practise your English if English is not your native language. The worksheet could be adapted to other languages too. Put your phones away and actually appreciate the spontaneity of the moment!
