I am a Lead Prac and Deputy SENCO English specialist. One of my main remits is creating fully inclusive curriculums that support KS4 LAP, nurture and SEN students in accessing GCSE content.
This bundle includes 11 Powerpoints with accompanying worksheets, covering an introduction to Macbeth.
Most students with significant barriers to learning need repetition and a consistent approach. Every lesson takes the same approach, stripping back every poem and focusing on the ‘why’ rather than the ‘how’. Method should be taught after intent. Once students have a firm grasp of the ‘why’, they can move on to deeper language and technique analysis. This is a set of introductory lessons aimed at the nurture bands.
Each lessons takes the same approach including watching Macbeth in 7 minutes. Please do not skip the step of watching this at the start of every lesson. It may feel repetitive at times but it’s a crucial part of the process. They will know the time line and characters off by heart at the end of the unit - no more confusing Banquo and Macduff.
Stripping back the content ensures the learning is focused and supports building knowledge and confidence, without overwhelming. The slides reference to particular moments in the play rather than pages. This means they can be used with any printed version. However, given they are aimed at LAP and SEN, I would recommend an abridged ‘No Fear Shakespeare’ version. The text is not included.
Introduce the worksheets at the start of the unit and let your students know you will be carouselling the same worksheets during the unit. There is also a what, how, why lesson included. This will help you integrate some summative lessons into the unit. I would do a what, how, why lesson at the end of every 3 or 4 lessons - you can create AQA lit style questions for them to respond to and tweak the slides.
These lessons really focus on creating a structured environment and consistent approach. Students know exactly what to expect from each lesson - including the end goal. They offer a stretch and challenge opportunities and are created with a SEN focus including:

Now and Next lists
Visual prompts
Colour decoding
