A new PSHE lesson in 2025. This lesson focuses on the journey of those needing to flee their country, the impact on those making the difficult journey and building empathy towards those who do so.

The aims of this lesson are:

  • Understand the difference between a refugee, asylum seeker, and migrant.
  • Explore reasons why people flee their countries.
  • Build empathy by imagining the journey and challenges of refugees.
  • Recognise the importance of kindness and support for displaced people.

The lesson includes a detailed, editable PowerPoint, with embedded clip tasks, teacher talk and student activities. Worksheet is included. It also includes an editable ‘Do Now’ slide, for students to reflect back to prior learning.

This is suitable for KS3 or KS4. This lesson is accessible for specialist and non-specialist PSHE teachers and is ready to use.

This lesson can be taught stand-alone or as part of the topic ‘A Better World For Myself And Others’. More resources can be found on my author page.
