
This powerpoint will guide your students to explore the 3 states of matter.
Go through the slides with your students.
When you get to the final slide students are instructed to rule up their workbooks into three sections with a label for each third - solid, liquid and gas.
Prior to the lesson you will have set up the tables with a variety of materials for students to investigate.
You will require the following samples -
- small jar of gravel,
- small jar of water,
- small jar of oil,
- an empty labelled ‘air’,
- an inflated balloon,
- bar of soap,
- small piece of plasticine,
- wood,
- rock,
- piece of metal,
- small jar of dishwashing liquid,
- photo of smoke,
- photo of a hot air balloon.
Students will investigate the materials and sort them into the table in their workbooks. They can write or draw each example.
