These lessons allows KS3 and KS4 students to consider the themes, language and structure of a range of Gothic texts. Some are nineteenth century and some are relatively recently published. The extracts are approached on a step by step basis, making the resource suitable for KS3 students beginning GCSE style studies or weaker KS4 students who find Language Paper 1 texts challenging.
The subject matter is popular and allows students to apply prior knowledge and context to the texts.

There are also an original / creative writing tasks included with each lesson, which allows students to develop ideas they have considered in the preceding extract.

These materials are suitable for using as an introduction to Gothic texts such as:
A Christmas Carol, Frankenstein, Jeckyll and Hyde
