Guy Fawkes, born in 1570, was an Englishman known for his role in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed conspiracy aimed at assassinating King James I and blowing up the House of Lords. The plot was uncovered, and Fawkes was arrested while guarding explosives placed beneath the Parliament building. He was subsequently tortured and executed. Today, Guy Fawkes is remembered each November 5th during Bonfire Night, where his image is often burned in effigies, symbolizing the foiling of the plot and the importance of parliamentary democracy.
