KS3 War Poetry 'The Soldier'
A lesson that aims to link personal accounts and historical context with the poem 'The Soldier' by Rupert Brooke. Resources are included. There are opportunities for group work and class discussion. Suitable for a year 8 mixed ability group or a high ability year 7 class.

The Merchant of Venice Shylock Analysis
A lesson based around extract analysis (Act 1 Scene 3) of The Merchant of Venice. Included is a differentiated grid and step by step instructions on the PowerPoint to develop analytical and writing skills. Suitable for a year 9 KS3 group. Prior knowledge of the play is required, the lesson would also be suitable as a revision activity.

WW1 Descriptive Writing for KS3
A lesson using a series of images from WW1 to practise and apply descriptive writing skills. Sentence frames are included and extension tasks are included. Suitable for a mixed ability Year 8 class or a higher ability Year 7 group. Can be used as a standalone lesson or as part of a SoW. Has been modified to suit online learning but can easily be adapted for the classroom.

Cambridge IGCSE 0500 English Language Paper 1 Walking Talking Mock
A full IGCSE English Language Paper 1 mock exam with sources related to experiences of food. Question paper and mark scheme are included (the mark scheme is on the powerpoint). Originally used to facilitate a walking talking mock, this can be used for individual revision also. Suitable for students of the Cambridge 0500 specification (2020 onwards).

KS3 Reading Analysis Coraline extract
Three lessons that focus on extract analysis - the first one involves planning, the second is a write up lesson and the third is a feedback/forward task. Modelled writing examples included and scaffold frame for PEED paragraph writing. Suitable for a high ability year 7 or mixed ability year 8. Can supplement an existing SoW or as an extract analysis practice for English Language.

IGCSE 'Blessing' by Imtiaz Dharker Analysis
A lesson based around analysing the poem 'Blessing' by Imtiaz Dharker. Comprehension questions and annotations are included of the poem. Prior knowledge of poetic devices is assumed and this is suitable for the iGCSE in English Literature. Originally pitched at a higher level year 10 class, this would supplement an existing scheme or as a standalone lesson.

An Inspector Calls GCSE Exam Process With Practice Questions
An exam process for the AQA GCSE English Literature exam question on ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestley. Consists of revision of key skills for exam prep, exam practice questions with mark schemes and a couple of annotated model answers. This would be useful for a KS4 class that has completed the text and needs to prepare/improve essay answers.

Dulce et Decorum Est KS3 WW1 Poetry Analysis
A pair of lessons that focus on language devices and performance using the poem 'Dulce et Decorum Est' by Wilfred Owen. The first lesson explore the poem through freeze frame activities and group work while the second lesson develops analysis of language devices within the poem with a modelled example. Originally used with a mixed ability year 8 group, this would also work with a high ability KS3 year 7 group and could supplement a war poetry scheme or as a standalone pair of lessons. Prior knowledge of simile, metaphor and emotive language is expected.

KS3 Chinese Cinderella Novel Study SoW
A 17 lesson scheme of work focusing on Chinese Cinderella, by Adeline Yen Mah. This scheme builds towards a reading assessment, with opportunities for discussion, presentation and creative writing activities throughout. Originally planned as an online scheme, this can be easily adapted to suit a classroom or to supplement an existing SoW. Suitable for a mixed ability Year 7 class.

KS3 Feedback Lesson Template
A ‘green pen’ lesson that allows students opportunities to respond to teacher feedback and reflect on their own learning. This is designed to be used to follow after a marking episode, and encourages students to think about larger, conceptual questions of a unit and respond to texts studied.
This lesson can be adapted to fit in with an existing unit of learning. Activities take an hour to complete.

Originally intended as a two lesson activity (one for planning, one for a final write up) to supplement an English Language scheme, this would suit a high ability year 7 class or a mixed ability year 8 group. Prior knowledge of basic language devices and sensory language would be useful.

KS3 Frankenstein Extract Analysis
Four lessons focusing on analysis of Philip Pullmans' play adaptation of Frankenstein. The first two lessons focus on improving essay writing skills while the fourth lesson is a feedback and forward style task. The third lesson is given over to timed writing.
