Updated Politics Taster Day lesson for 2024 This lesson is for the Edexcel course- we cover: Feminism and option 3A USA so some slides are tailored to this. Lesson is largely discussion based with a true or false quiz to promote discussion. Covers: Corruption and Accountability, Participation and Protest etc. Also includes: careers in Politics, famous students of politics, uses of politics alevel for degree level and quotes from students as well as a breakdown of the course. Also includes some little youtube clips from comedy shows, trailers for Knock Down the House etc.

Edexcel Politics ALevel but can be used for AQA or US Civics lessons Lesson 1 Introduction to USA Politics to start Year 13 course in Comparative Politics. 1 hour lesson which will cover all the basics of US Politics- Part of my 2 lesson intro to USA- Part 2 is US Historical context. Designed for Edexcel spec but can be adapted for AQA. Could also be used for other areas e.g. context for English Literature, Social Studies, Sociology etc.

This knowledge organiser has useful and up to date information for Topic 1 Constitution and Federalism including debates on whether the amendment process is fit for purpose and whether the constitution needs reform. Includes key words, case studies and models of federalism as well as different examples under every president since 2000. Document is a 2 slide powerpoint and covers Edexcel Topic 1 Constitution and Federalism.

Hate teaching Electoral Systems? I used to as well- no matter how I taught them- students could never remember the differences and strengths and weaknesses. Edexcel Politics ALevel can be used for any spec- (Note may now be slightly out of date as the Mayoral elections have changed system) and list no longer used This resource was created after 10 years of frustration! It is designed to let students explore the different systems for themselves- engaging with the ballot forms and trying to work out how they work and the strengths and weaknesses for themselves. When I used this for the first time last year the students remembered the systems so much better than ever before and were able to evaluate them really well. Accompanying powerpoint and worksheets to go with the interactive ballot activity and card sort. This resource covers 5-6 hours of teaching on electoral systems including a detailed evaluation of FPTP and a comparison to other electoral systems as a legacy of the Jenkins commission. It covers most of the Elections topic just nothing on Referendums. All videos except one are embedded for your convenience- the other was too large! Edexcel Politics Alevel Lessons on Ideologies as a whole and Liberalism as a topic for the Edexcel 2017 spec. I teach Liberalism first because it makes MUCH more sense since it was developed first as an Ideology and Conservatism was a response to it. This bundle includes the first 7 lessons (2 hours each) intro and activities, Core Values with independent research (uses hand outs from Pearson and Haywood book) and Explanation of the Core Values but you could use some of the slides if you don’t have the textbook. Lesson 5 ends up developing a plan for the essay: To what extent do Liberals agree on the State? (24 marks) I taught these lessons to my Year 13 class and they worked really well for discussion. Also includes some embedded videos and worksheets. EDIT: I have now amended this resource and added some additional files. Edexcel GCSE Superpower relations Key Topic 2: Cold War Crises Lesson 4 The Cuban Missile Crisis 1962 This lesson follows my lesson on the Cuban Revolution and Bay of Pigs invasion It examines the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Khrushchev’s defence of sending missiles to Cuba and Kennedy’s decision making as well as the divisive advice from the Hawks and Doves in foreign and defence policy. The consequences of Cuban Missile Crisis are also covered alongside an 8 mark write a narrative account question. Also includes a gap fill model answer to the Explain two consequences of the Bay of Pigs invasion question including an SEND version with words to use to make it easier.

This is designed for KS3 looking at life of Eleanor of Aquitaine- her strengths as a ruler and why she deserved to be remembered. It is important to not see medieval women as passive, dutiful wives and partners nor victims but to present them as they really were- fierce, resilient, intelligent and powerful.

GCSE Edexcel Superpower Relations and the Cold War 1941-1991 This lesson follows my lesson on the Second Berlin Crisis and examines why the Wall was built and what the consequences were on Berlin/ Germany, USA, USSR and International Relations. Fully resourced, does not need textbooks - any reference to the textbook- has all the necessary information on the following slides/ animations pull it up but obviously you can use the textbooks if you have them- or print the info on the slides for students to do that task independently. Very detailed; enough material for Grades 9-1.

Lesson inspired by Miranda Kaufmann’s Black Tudors book- stories of four inspiring Black individuals and what they can tell us about Black African people in Tudor England. This is also part of my unit of work on Tudor monarchs priced £6 for all the lessons if you would rather get more lessons on the Tudors for KS3. They are very high challenge and include a variety of retrieval tasks.

This taster day lesson is for ALevel History. It is largely focused around the Russia course and the February Revolution although we also teach OCR Wars of the Roses and Tudor Rebellions so has info on those too. Includes: careers in History, why people choose History ALevel and some film clips/ trailers as well as a source based activity on the fall of the Romanovs.

A detailed knowledge organiser for US Politics Edexcel Topic 2 congress. This KO includes key terms, debates, processes and powers of Congress. Up to date as of summer 2024.

This lesson is designed for KS3 but can be used for KS4 also for the AQA and Edexcel specs. It examines how far the lives of women changed during the 1920s and covers flapper culture as well as opposition from Christians and Traditional women as well as some men and authorities. Includes 3 activities - a similarity and difference activity, note taking from a video clip and explanation and a card sort with continuums to annotate before making final judgments. Considers nuances such as the lives of African-Americans in both the North and South e.g. Harlem Renaissance vs Southern Jim Crow repressed women. Also looks at age groups and rural vs urban women.

Introduction lesson to Voting Behaviour and the Media This lesson introduces students to the concept of studying voting behaviour and examines factors which may affect voting behaviour. The idea is that students are then given case studies to produce and present on an individual election. Includes powerpoint on intro lesson which covers 1979 and 1997 key case studies as an overview of what happened in each election. Debate on the question “1979/1997 elections were lost by the government rather than won by the opposition” examination of Valence Voting and brief introduction of other theories. This lesson was designed after completing the UCL course on teaching the Holocaust. It focuses on Pre War Jewish life in Europe and is an introduction to the Holocaust topic. Students cannot necessarily understand the gravity of what was lost in the Holocaust if they do not have a grasp of Jewish life and contribution to life before it. This is a fully resourced lesson, no textbooks required. Includes mindmap template, evidence sheets for group work, maps and a plenary activity designed to examine and discredit antisemitic stereotypes using the content learned in the lesson. A huge bundle of 13 different example answers for ALevel Russia 1894-1941 - OCR ALevel course but can be adapted for any exam board.Some of these are from past paper questions and some are from questions we have generated- all titles listed below for clarity. OCR uses 20 mark “How far do you agree?” style open essays and 10 mark shorter questions in which students must only compare 2 factors as a more important cause or consequence of something. These answers are all A-A* grade responses. This lesson was designed after completing the UCL course on Understanding the Holocaust. This lesson is lesson 2 in my sequence of learning and examines the nature of antisemitic prejudice in Germany as well as escalation of persecution in order for students to better understand how and why having rights taken away is such a dangerous step. Also helps students to understand the nature of Hitler’s dictatorship and why it was so difficult to oppose him. Fully resourced lesson. Includes powerpoint and worksheet (timeline activity).
