The resources contained within this booklet have been designed for use in the classroom to assist in covering a topic or outcome. They have been formatted to allow for quick printing of individual lessons for emergency cover lessons when practical work cannot be completed due to teacher absence, unexpected unavailability of the workshop etc.

Worksheet descriptions
Activities 1 and 2 are traditional find-a-word containing 15 words taken from the Food Technology Food Selection and Health unit. Both worksheets contain the same words for students to search however, the search tables are different in each. Teachers may chose to use “Find-A-Word 1” and “Find-A-Word 2” in the same lesson but providing each second student with the alternative so as to prevent copying etc.
Activity 3 is a Life Skills version of the activity above. It containing the same 15 words taken from the Food Selection and Health unit, however, the guide is smaller and all the words are either up and down or across the grid making the location of terms easier to find.
Activity 4 requires students to write the definitions for each term in the space provided. Students could be instructed to conduct their own research by using the internet or the teacher may prefer to provide the definition for students to re write.
Activity 5 is a traditional crossword puzzle containing 15 words taken from the Food Selection and Health unit.
Need some relevant and engaging work for your Engineering class when you can not be in class. The activities include within this resource are for students studying examples of great engineering feats. This activity specifically looks at The London Eye, and includes a set of questions relating to the text. The case study include a reading activity with questions, 2 versions of a find-a-word and other activities which could be provided to students after completion of the main activity.
Great for those emergency mornings when you need to find some work for the casual or sub teacher filling in.
What is included in this resource?
London Eye reading comprehension activity
This activity includes a 3 page outline of the engineering challenges faced by the builders of the London Eye. The activity could be used as a reading task with the entire class or an an individual activity. Page 4 of this activity includes some reading comprehension questions relating to the text.
London Eye Quick Quiz test yourself
Activity 2 is a quiz activity which consists of 10 Multiple choice questions. It could be used to check students understanding after reading though the text in activity 1. Students are able to check their own answers using the answer key at the bottom of the page.
London Eye Find-A-Word (V1)
Activity 3 is a Find-A-Word activity with 20 words related to the London Eye and matching information found in activity 1 “London Eye reading comprehension activity”.
London Eye Find-A-Word (V2)
Identical to activity 3 with an alternative layout. Ideal for distribution to students sitting next to each other if the teacher would prefer students to work independently.
Life skills Diversified versions
This activity includes life skills versions of the activities
Life skills or lower ability students will be able to participate in the lesson with a simplified reading activity along with questions i the form of true/false questions. A find-A-Word activity is also included with a reduced number of words and smaller letter box area.
The R.M.S Titanic Case Study
The story of the titanic is widely known. This resource has been designed to provide the teacher with an opportunity to discuss the disaster in a setting of an Engineering or Metalwork class.
The text could be used to assist in opening up a discussion around steel quality, manufacturing and joining techniques.
