Description
Celebrate Refugee Week 2025 (16–22 June) with this thoughtful and engaging 11-slide assembly all about the power of community. Aimed at UK secondary schools, this ready-to-use presentation helps pupils understand what it means to be a refugee, why people are forced to flee their homes, and how small acts of kindness and inclusion can make a huge difference.
Centred around this year’s theme, “Community is a Superpower”, the assembly explores the emotional and human impact of displacement through the story of Hamid, who fled Eritrea as a child. Pupils are encouraged to reflect, empathise, and think about practical ways they can help build a more welcoming world.
Fully editable and beautifully presented – ready to deliver or tailor to your setting.
What’s included?
• 11-slide PowerPoint assembly (fully editable)
• Clear explanation of what a refugee is and why people become refugees
• A moving video suggestion (Hamid’s story) for optional inclusion
• Reflective prompts to get students thinking about empathy and belonging
• Discussion around the importance of community and how we can help
• Simple Acts – practical ways pupils can support refugees
• Ends with a call to action: What will you do?
Ideal for:
• KS3, KS4 or KS5 assemblies
• Form time or PSHE sessions during Refugee Week
• Supporting SMSC, Personal Development and Citizenship
• Promoting empathy, inclusion, and global awareness in your school
