The English Civil War
Two lessons covering the topic of the English Civil War:
L1: Causes of the English Civil War - introduces the Civil War and students must categorise the causes, create sketch notes, before finally considering which causes were the most significant in the build up.
L2: Assessment
L3: Peer Assessment + DIRT - an easy-to-use grid has been included that makes peer assessment more meaningful to both students.
Challenge activities (in pink bubbles) have also been included in each lesson.
Used with a higher-ability Year 8 class, but can easily be adapted to fit other ages and abilities.

Development - set of 9 lessons
A set of 9 lessons covering the topic of Development, focusing in particular on the causes of the development gap:
L1: Intro to Development
L2/3: Measuring Development - including the Happy Planet Index!
L4/5: Theories of Development
L6: Global Players & Organisations (case study - Apple Inc. and the Foxconn Factory)
L7: The Millennium Development Goals
L8: The Role of Trade in Development (case study - Mali)
L9: Megacities (case study - Dhaka)
A variety of activities have been included within these lessons to maximise engagement and cater for differing learning styles. Examples of activities include - diamond 9 ranking, sketch notes, taboo, peer-teaching jigsaws and decision-making exercises. Challenge tasks and questions (in pink bubbles/squares) have also been included in each lesson, and homework tasks have been included throughout too.
These lessons have been designed for A-Level, but could easily be adapted to fit GCSE specifications.

Slavery - set of 10 lessons
A full set of 10 lessons covering the topic of slavery:
L1: Intro & the Trade Triangle
L2: Sugar & the Slave Trade - including how Britain benefited from the slave trade
L3: The Middle Passage - includes a short assessment
L4: Slave Auctions
L5/6: The Life of a Slave - large focus on analysing sources in groups
L7: Slave Resistance & the Underground Railroad
L8: The Songs of Slaves - students share a slave song that they researched at home, before writing their own!
L9/10: The Abolition of Slavery - includes an end of topic assessment.

The Gunpowder Plot
Two lessons covering the topic of the Gunpowder Plot:
L1: James I - explores who James I was and his role in Britain, then leads onto students designing their own flag.
L2: The Gunpowder Plot investigation - students become detectives for the lesson to get to the bottom of the Gunpowder Plot mystery; strong focus on source work.
L3: Assessment

2. To modify the process of waterfall formation into the significant stages
3. To apply processes of erosion to the landscape of a river’s upper course

Population Explosion
This lesson explores world population growth and the idea of a population explosion. It also covers the factors that affect a country's birth rate and death rate. This lesson includes a range of activities for different learning styles, including a continuum line, card sort, diamond 9 and drawing emojis to represent the different factors!
Used for high-ability Year 8, but am also going to be using these activities with Year 10 so could easily be adapted for other year groups and abilities.

Tourism in Kenya
Introductory lesson to tourism in Kenya before moving onto ecotourism. A range of activities within this lesson, including a group decision-making exercise/role play. Students really got into this exercise and it helped them to formulate their own ideas around the advantages and disadvantages of mass tourism. Used with high-ability Year 8, but could easily be adapted for other year groups :)
