These lesson PowerPoints (including practical activity) can be used to teach a broad range of abilities about key terms relating to solutions and how to test the solubility of a substance. There are two versions of the lesson, one aimed at Higher ability groups and one more accessible to mixed / lower ability groups. Each has its own version of the worksheet. These PowerPoints will allow you to teach students how to calculate reacting masses (the mass of product made by a given mass of reactant and vice versa). Two PowerPoints are provided: Higher-tier lesson The PowerPoint (plus worksheet with exam-style practice questions) will allow you to teach Higher-tier only content on stoichiometry and then use this alongside numbers of moles to calculate reacting masses. Foundation-tier lesson Foundation students need to learn how calculate reacting masses but they do not need to learn how to calculate numbers of moles. The PowerPoint aimed at Foundation students revisits Relative Formula Mass and shows how to use this to approach Reacting Masses in a different way. It can also be used as backup for Higher students who struggle with Moles. The resources are easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and are appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes! The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers. Also included is an ICT extension task summarising the impact that fungi, bacteria and protoctists can have on human health. I have used this previously for a full additional lesson of consolidation while delivering the unicellular organisms topic.
