An SEN science lesson about how fossils are formed in sedimentary rocks, from the KS 2 National Curriculum. Opening activity are some questions about rocks to recap (with prompts), a quick speaking and listening task, some key learning, a BBC bitesize video, and a worksheet activity (fill in the blanks, experiment, story board for fossils being formed) Using bread, pupils can put a gummy on, add another slice, add a gummy, etc. When pupils press the bread down the way sediment would be compacted, and then lift off the bread, they will see the imprint of their gummy very clearly. This is how a fossil is made.

An SEN Year 7 science lesson from the KS National curriculum about the earth’s structure. Includes 4 recap questions about rocks, some key learning, a bbc bitesize video, and the investigation prompts. Two adapted worksheets with/without visual symbols are included. Using oreos and oat biscuits (for different rocks) crumbled and crushed into a plastic cup with vegetable oil (plant matter) gummy worms or bears (animal matter) and coco powder, pupils can make their own soil and then eat it if they wish.
