This contains a list of ideas for form time that I have used over the years. You will need to select them based on your group as not all will be successful for the students.

A list of ideas I have used to help break down and teach the poetic techniques. Examples are provided where necessary.

A reading comprehension tailored for kids aged 12-14 based on the iconic buildings of Dubai. This comprehension will also work well for EAL students (Especially those based in the UAE as they gain exposure to key terms related to the country).

An extract from Alice in Wonderland which contains 12 challenging questions. Perfect for NGRT or GL prep for older classes.

A worksheet containing 3 poems with 15 comprehension questions for each. The questions are a mixture of comprehension and interpretation of the poems. Can be used as a stretch and challenge or an assessment for a poetry unit. Contained: If The Road Not Taken I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

This resource contains two sets of 30 questions. Set one if a beginner set where a word bank is provided for a more structured approach to the exercise. The second set does not include a word bank and also contains idioms. In total it is sixty questions.

Three short unseen poetry exams. The poems are simple and would suit younger ages, low achievers or EAL. Each poem contains a range of simple poetic techniques for the students to identify. Each poem contains twelve questions to answer.

A visual aid for exploring maps. This powerpoint contains 47 images of different maps. It is of great use for exploring maps across a number of subjects like geography, art and history. Please note that this is a visual aid compiled. It contains a large number of images to encourage discussion and be used in lessons.

Three short reading comprehensions each with twelve questions. The comprehensions segments are only a few sentences each and allow for a very close analysis of the text to occur. Aimed at students 13-16 age groups. A good resource to teach students to unpack meaning in short segments of text.

A simple comprehension for EAL or weaker students based around Donald Trump. The piece is five paragraphs long centered around his life and his controversies. Students should then complete the questions after each paragraph.

Over thirty pages of revision notes for the MYP Langugae and Literature E-Assessment that I have compiled after 5 years teaching the course. The guide contains advice on how best to tackle task 1E, 2 and 3. Included: How to compare and contrast Key terms for a range of writing genres which are required in task 2. Tips and structures for functional writing pieces needed for task 3.

A reading comprehension tailored for students aged 12-14. This would also work very well for lower level and EAL students (particularly those who are located in the UAE as they can learn terms regarding Dubai).

A PowerPoint that acts as a lesson and revision notes for persuasive writing. This hour long lesson gives a comprehensive insight into the art of persuasive writing. It requires students to look at the ideas of audience, tone and style in their essays. It is perfect to use in a functional writing unit.

A reading comprehension that is based around the iconic buildings of Tokyo. The piece is suitable for higher or middle achievers. It is perfect to prepare for NGRT or GL exams. The piece contains 15 questions covering the 6 paragraphs.

A quiz where students must try guess what city and country is being displayed on the PowerPoint. The quiz contains of 70 questions and is a substantial game that can be played over a large number of lessons. The scoring system is simple. If the students guess both the city and country they get two points. If they only know one answer they get a single point.

A reading comprehension about Elon Musk containing his early life and business ventures. The comprehension is 15 questions over 5 paragraphs. Perfect for preparing students for reading and literacy examinations.

A comprehensive lesson on writing reviews that covers audience, tone and structure of review writing. It is perfect for teaching functional writing skills in an approachable style. A number of examples are given including a review of a hotel and two internet reviews. These can be discussed in detail and are useful for driving a discussion on what is important in a review. Finally students are tasked with writing either a hotel or movie review!

A lesson to teach students how to use emotive language. The main concept of the lesson is to take neutral sentences and make them more emotive.
