These are one step more and less problems that I've been using in Year 1. We're practising the vocabulary of 'more' and 'less' and their association with add and subtract. I'm also doubling up on a bit of "know and recognise the value of different coins."
The last three slides require secure understanding and reasoning skills and so are good for extension or mastery/more able work. They ask questions such as: "Stu has 8p. Every week he spends 2p on sweets. How many weeks will his money last for?" Or: 'Amandeep has 2p. Meera has 5p more in her purse. Which coins does Meera have in her purse? Can you draw all the different combinations of coins that Meera might have?

How many different ways can Santa wrap the presents? An investigation for children to find all of the combinations of wrapping paper and ribbon.
Differentiated worksheets are included and I used real wrapping paper and ribbon for LA/SEN children.
A number problem for year 1 children to solve involving triangular numbers.
We had been looking at different methods the children could use to solve number problems, e.g. drawing diagrams, using apparatus, making playdough models, etc.. They worked in pairs or small groups to encourage them to talk about their approach.
The problem is easily differentiated by changing the final number. More able children and those in higher year groups could look at the pattern and think about rules for solving the problem regardless of the number given.
Reading comprehensions on the UK government, general election and democracy. There are three differentiated versions that could be used for Year 2 and upwards. My more able Year 1s had a go at the comprehension sheet in the middle of the file and did pretty well, it was a good challenge for them - I'm amused that they would build more chocolate factories if they ran the government!
Questions include multiple choice, short written and longer written answers. The highest level also contains a true/false table with statements to be ticked as appropriate.
Children can practise consonant blends as games with these sets of cards and create their own words by mixing and matching cards. Great preparation for the phonics check if you have identified consonant blends as a sticking point for a pupil. I find that even simple final consonant blends can trip up children, e.g. reading ulb as lub.

This Year 1 unit of maths work is for early on in Year 1. The learning journey focuses on learning to read and write the numbers 1 - 10 in numerals and words as well as counting to 30 forwards and backwards. These numbers are lower than the end of year (EOY) expectations for Year 1 but activities can easily be extended for more able pupils or if you are teaching this unit later in the year.
NC objectives covered:
• Count to and across 30 (EOY = 100), forward s and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1 or from any given number.
• Count, read and write numbers to 50 in numerals.
• Read and write numbers from 1-10 (EOY = 1-20)
This unit includes:
- a unit of work overview
- an entry/exit pass for AfL
- number frames and number cards (pupils pick a card and dot in the number frames)
- editable pom-pom serving game (group game: pupils pick a card, 'waiter' has to serve the correct number and colour of pom-poms - use tweezers for fine motor skill practise!)

Primary school SMSC assembly plan and presentation based on the word ‘Cultural’ and informed by the government’s advice document on promoting fundamental British values as part of Spiritual Moral Social and Cultural development in schools.
The assembly helps children to understand the meaning of the words ‘cultural’ and ‘cultural diversity’. They apply the concept to themselves in school first and then extend it to living in the United Kingdom. There is a reflection at the end of the assembly for children to consider our differences, what unites us and how we should challenge discrimination where it arises.

8 session Year 2 English creative writing unit of work that can be easily adapted for other year groups. There is a focus on correctly sequencing a story and the use of adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe and specify. The planning is based around ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson but can be tweaked to apply to an adventure story of your choice. I have taught this a few times and it is a very memorable lesson that both the children and I enjoy immensely. The artwork is often thoughtful, moving and special, sparking great discussions and deep thinking. Try giving the children drawing the scene of Jesus on the cross some grey/black paper and red, black and white oil pastels (in contrast to the other groups who have all colours available to them) - it produces quite a startling effect.

Based on the 2016 interim assessment framework for KS1 mathematics, this form provides additional evidencing of the Working Towards criteria for maths. Useful for children who struggle to record their knowledge.
Bookmark targets cards in a variety of colours and with a range of headings, including a blank space for you to write on your own if preferred. The target cards include a 'Personal Best' box for children/teacher to record their achievement and attempt to improve upon it. E.g. I can use full stops correctly. PB - 5 (full stops used correctly). I've found 'PB's to be very motivating in the past! They also give children a sense of ownership and involvement with their targets.
Three differentiated 'Seaside Snack Shack' menus for addition and subtraction work as well as one-step problem solving involving addition and subtraction, including missing number problems.
The three menus cover objectives as follows:
Menu 1 -
- use number bonds within 10.
Menu 2 -
- use number bonds within 20
- add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including 0.
Menu 3 -

I encouraged my pupils to work systematically, looking for the lowest multiple and working up because those that didn’t were more prone to making errors. A EYFS/KS1-friendly version of the Easter Story, perfect for assemblies and lessons about Easter.
The powerpoint tells the Christian story of Easter very simply and at the end there are some reflection questions for the children to discuss.
Solve the code to reveal the shape names and match them to the correct shape. Perfect for Key Stage 1/lower Key Stage 2 revision of common 2D and 3D shape recognition and naming. There is an answer key included so that children can mark their own work if desired.
I recently printed pages 2 and 3 of the file double-sided and used it as an end of term activity with my Year 1s - it kept them very quiet! It could also be used as a back to school baseline activity or to provide AfL information when you are about to teach a unit on shape.

Print the pdf as is, double-sided, and make sure you tick the ‘flip on the short edge’ option. The booklet will print out in the correct order and you simply need to fold the pages in half.
