A pack of 5 general engineering starter activities for use in Engineering lessons. These have been made for level 1/2 students and each one will help to build vocabulary as well as developing knowledge of certain terms when the teacher goes through answers. Included with each of the 5 puzzles is an answer sheet. All puzzles have been provided as a PDF. Stay tuned for more puzzles and quizzes as we progress through the academic year.

Resource for engineering or technical drawing. Includes large (124 slide) PPT file with lots of activities and information, and worksheets that follow some of the presentations activities. When I use this resource I hide the slides that I don’t need and only use the parts that I want to use for a given lesson. Please feel free to chop, change and cut anything in the resource (you will notice that it isn’t in widescreen but if you copy the slides you want into a newer version of PPT it should still look good)

Worksheet placed onto a powerpoint slide, revises properties of materials, electron configuration and the periodic table. Good to use as a starter activity or as a quick quiz, for use it can be printed as it is or printed as an a3 sheet. Feel free to chop, change, cut or paste anything you might find useful.

An 8 page activity that shows the methods of reading micrometers and vernier callipers for design, technology, and engineering applications. Ideal as a cover activity during teacher absence. Teaches basic theory behind the measuring tools, the methods of reading them and the sheet includes activities for the student to practice reading the scales if there are no measuring tools available in class. Feel free to cut, chop, paste and change the sheet to meet your needs.

Basic, low level activities designed to give students confidence in reading and producing their own drawings in engineering. Starter activity is for students to identify the correct views. Drawing activities are for the students to convert isometric to orthographic projection, using guide lines - (you may need to adjust the contrast of your printer before printing, I had a small issue but it was fixed with a bit of adjustment) Feel free to chop, change and paste whatever you like to suit your own style.

Lots of information about metal casting processes. I use this by cutting out the information that I need for a specific lesson and producing my handouts and activities around this. Feel free to chop, change or cut anything you like from the powerpoint, to suit your teaching needs.

Booklet that covers a wide range of the specification for the BTEC unit 1 - The Engineered World. All activities are fully answered already - before issuing to students you might want to spend bit of time deleting the answers to produce a student copy. I have done it this way to give you freedom of choice as to the information you leave in the book. Feel free to chop and change any of the activities that you wish to deliver as individual activities.

A set of activities used as stretch and challenge for more able students when working on CAD (Solidedge). Could be used for other types of CAD, or even manual technical drawing classes. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything you like to suit your teaching style.

A revision pack for BTEC level 3 students studying Finishing and forming. I now use this to cut and paste information into lessons as I see fit, Lots of information regarding machining techniques and other forming methods. Feel free to cut, paste and change anything to suit your own styles.

Short case studies that can be used with all students to form opinions about regulations and procedures in the world of work. I copy each of the studies out, usually at the beginning of a course to start discussions about health and safety at work, before the students have had an opportunity to learn about the subject in depth. Basic H & S quiz, can be used as a starter for new students to an engineering course. Please feel free to chop and change any of the questions to suit your courses.

An old turning assessment activity designed to be used with the old NVQ courses. I still use this when introducing students to the lathe as it helps them to think about the functions and risks. Please cut and paste any of the information and drawings in the handout and use them as you feel best reflects your course.

A 22 slide presentation on the subject of linear measurement. The content focuses on the engineering/technology/design side of measurement but will be appropriate for students of all areas that simply need a lesson in measuring. Ideal for a cover lesson if a teacher is away from work. Covers many types of measuring from using rulers through to micrometers, vernier callipers and laser measurement. Feel free to cut, chop and paste any of the slides and any of the content/design to suit your own purposes.

Engineering/Technical drawing workbooks for 12-19 year old students (depending on previous knowledge, skills etc.) Comprehensive introduction to technical drawing covering topics such as - Sketching, isometric projection, orthographic projection, dimensioning and British standards. Good to use in the case of covering lessons as most of the activities are self explanatory. Many drawings have been used from textbooks - repurposed with original activities to develop skills in DT and technical drawing. Feel free to cut, paste and use any images, information and activities to suit your teaching.

Engineering based health and safety intro for fairly low level students - Level 1/2 Explains the meanings behind COSHH, HASAWA and asks students to find risks in three photographs. Handy for a cover teacher to use to introduce health and safety theory. Feel free to change, cut and paste to suit yourself.

Each document covers some of the specifications for a range of engineering information, this information can then be cut down into activities or used as part of your wider engineering teaching. Slides that test students recall of the main safety signs that are displayed in every aspect of life. The main signs are: Prohibitive Mandatory Warning First aid Safety These questions are ready to go right out of the box but might also be useful in many other subject areas. Engineering materials activity - Useful for having students complete for research and then to keep for revision purposes. Great for a cover session where the cover teacher might have IT use, students can complete a meaningful task that will be useful to them later in the course. Used with Level 1 and 2 BTEC Engineering students - only minimal teacher intervention required for students to show progress in engineering materials.

A chart that shows how materials are grouped together. I have this laminated so that during the intro to materials students can write on it with whiteboard markers. It's just a simple sheet that I use quite regularly. Feel free to copy, paste, chop and change anything you want.
