A revision lesson that includes a variety of different activities to help pupils revise different aspects of the ‘Changing Economic World’ unit for AQA GCSE Geography. The tasks include developing a pre-created mind map to help pupils make links between ideas and to define key words, a gaps fill, developing an answer to a 9 mark question, based on an example answer, a quiz quiz trade activity, a quiz and a silent debate. The idea of the quiz, quiz, trade is to improve students short term memory skills and to help them remember key facts. The silent debate draws together different concepts discussed during the topic and helps pupils to start to engage in critical debate based on evidence. A lesson which introduces different types of tourism and some key words for pupils. Pupils have to select one holiday maker from the options and design the best holiday to Brazil for them, choosing appropriate flights, accommodation and an itinerary. This lesson doesn't require any IT as information sheets are included in the pack, making it ideal for a pupil led, research lesson where IT facilities are not available for pupils. It's aimed at a year 8 class, but could be used for year 7s and year 9s as well. A differentiated version of the proposal sheet is included and also some stickers where pupils can peer assess each other's work in an engaging way.

A lesson that investigates plastic waste and the pollution of Henderson island. Links with current changes in governmental policy and very topical with blue planet highlighting this issue. Used with a year 7 class. The powerpoint includes a booklet for the pupils to fill in as you go through the lesson. Pupils will have to used clues to work out where the island is (map skills) and will have the opportunity to voice their own opinions on the emotive topic.

Powerpoint with resources included and a written lesson plan. This lesson works as an introduction to UK storms and extreme weather. Origninally designed for a high ability year 8 class, it could also be used to introduce extreme weather in the UK to GCSE classes for the AQA spec. This lesson is designed for Storm Doris, but is easily adaptable to a different case study if needed. Pupils will have to classify the effects of the storm and work to try and understand the causes from a card sort.

Lesson on urban design for AQA GCSE 9-1. Covers aspects of sustainability such as waste, transport, energy etc. Looks at the example of a housing development in Leeds called CITU, but could easily be substituted for an example nearer your school. Pupils will have to adapt a city to show how it could be more sustainable as well as complete an index to assess the sustainability of the Climate Innovation District in Leeds.

Lesson 2 for KS3 unit of work on food. Students will discuss the distribution using maps and will learn the key terms ‘famine’ and ‘drought’. There is a video which introduces the problem of famine and drought in the Horn of Africa and pupils have a silent reflection task to complete based on this. The majority of tasks are differentiated and pupils choose which to complete based on ability.

Also uses a video from the charity, ‘Mary’s Meals’ to see how charities can tackle the problem of famine and development together. Main activity uses a card sort to determine the causes and effects of hunger around the world.
