The material includes notes and exercises on ionic bonding, covalent bonding , electron shells and electron arrangement for the first twenty elements of the Periodic Table , Group 1 metals physical and chemical properties including practical activity , definition of density and density calculations , contrasting physical properties of simple molecular structures with giant molecular structures , law of energy conservation, word and chemical symbol equations, rates of reaction, factors affecting rate such as concentration, temperature and surface area with practical activities , metal reactivity including displacement reactions with practical activity , salt preparation with practical activity and naming salts.
The materials have been designed as a self contained booklet so ideally this should be kept by each student in a ring binder folder. This way students have all their notes for the topics in one location so should assist them with both organizing their own work and should become easier for the teacher to monitor their progress across all three units. The booklet has been set up so that students can work at their own pace throughout the booklet but also allows the teacher to direct students to particular topics such as rates of reaction where understanding of variables and carrying out investigations into how factors can affect the rate of a reaction clearly requires more teacher guidance. I have included graph work too as a number of students have problems drawing graphs understanding proportionality , axis and using the correct units
Alternatively, the teacher can work through the booklet deciding at what point to allow the students to engage with independent learning.
There are extension questions too so that the full range of abilities in the class are catered for.
The booklet also contains solutions to all the questions set at the end of the booklet. There are 50 pages in the booklet.
These resources have been specifically designed for the Chemistry components of the Cambridge Lower Secondary Science syllabus. However, these resources can be modified or adapted to be used for any Key Stage 3 Chemistry course.

The questions in this end of unit test resource covers the main components of metal reactivity in IGCSE Chemistry including metal reactivity series, displacement reactions , observations for signs of a chemical reaction , variables when conducting metal reactivity experiments , conditions for iron to rust and preventative methods , Group 1 alkali metal reactivity , reactions with air and water , observations and explaining why reactivity changes on descending the group.
The test is deliberately not extensive yet covers the main components students are likely to be tested on at IGCSE level in this topic. I have also designed and included a grading chart so the teacher can monitor their student’s progress in this topic.
An answer sheet to all the questions is also provided at the end of the test and linked to my role as an Examiner indicating which answers are acceptable based on previous and more recent Chemistry external examination questions around this topic that I have marked.

The resource contains background theory, worksheets and extension questions on the topic Gases in the Atmosphere. This topic is usually covered in different chapters in most IGCSE/GCSE Chemistry textbooks so I have consolidated all the topics into a single booklet for ease of reference.
It covers Gases in the air, History of the Earth’s Atmosphere, experiments used to determine the percentage volume of oxygen in the air using copper and iron, metal oxides including word and chemical equations, Greenhouse effect, Enhanced Greenhouse effect with causes and effects, problems and potential solutions associated with Global warming, Carbon Footprints-What are they and how they are measured? , complete and incomplete combustion of fuels, carbon monoxide toxicity, , oxides of sulfur and nitrogen formation and release in motor exhausts linked to Acid rain and potential harm to the environment alongside combustion of fossil fuels. The booklet has exercises including extension questions so the range of abilities within the class is covered.
The resource is designed so that students write their answers directly into the booklet. Once completed, it will provide them with a very useful revision resource of their own work.
I have also included solutions at the end of the booklet to all the questions and tasks.
The resource is designed for IGCSE /GCSE Chemistry courses but with references to air pollution and other environmental issues parts of the booklet are relevant to KS3 Chemistry courses such as Cambridge Checkpoint Science.

This IGCSE Chemistry Core Practical Booklet covers the eight core practicals students are expected to have opportunities to carry out under the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry specification {9-1} . My booklet covers the following practicals :
Investigating the composition of inks
Investigating pH
Preparation of copper sulphate
Electrolysis
Acid‐alkali titration
Rates of reaction
Identifying ions
Combustion of alcohols
This booklet is different with respect to other IGCSE Chemistry core practical resources I have seen and researched in that I have actually listed the exact apparatus required, the concentrations of solutions required and the mass of reagents needed to carry out each of these experiments in a school laboratory to obtain meaningful data. Each core practical has been tried and tested successfully over the years with both my Triple and Double Award Chemistry students who are able to obtain data or results to assist them with the analysis components of each investigation and , where unsuccessful, provided opportunities to discuss with them potential experimental errors in their procedure.
For each experiment, aside from the full apparatus list, I have provided full methodology , results tables with units and graph paper where appropriate and incorporated this into the core practical. Each practical has questions that cover the apparatus and techniques, explore their mathematical skills , ability to scale and draw graphs, analyze and evaluate data. The questions are differentiated to allow for the range of abilities in your groups.
An advantage of the booklet is that the students write directly into the booklet. This allows for all the key core practical skills , knowledge and understanding to be located in one booklet and not dispersed among several exercise books, scraps of paper , non -chemistry books etc.
The booklet could be issued immediately to the students at the start of term or retained in the lab until all the core practicals are completed over the two years for each student
Once completed, the booklet can be issued to the student providing a useful resource of revision to assist them towards their final IGCSE Chemistry exams as they will certainly face questions covering the core practicals.
I have also included solutions to all the questions in my 50 page booklet.
The resource covers the practical demonstration of the alkali metals lithium, sodium and potassium with air and water including the apparatus required , methodology and health and safety considerations required for this classic demonstration in Chemistry.
I have essentially provided a workbook for the students that include questions covering the demonstration itself and others designed to enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the trends in physical and chemical properties of the alkali metals.
There are also extension questions included to allow for the range of abilities in IGCSE /GCSE groups.
