Homer’s Odyssey Revision: 41 Character Cards (description and key words) This resource contains: 41x character revision cards with a character description and keywords to describe their character. This is an excellent and fun game about (all) the characters in Homer’s Odysseus which can be used for revision purposes. Students split the cards in half and describe the character using the description of keywords. The other person in the pair must guess what character they are describing. This not only reflects on the characters of Homer’s Odyssey but also links to key themes and books studied.

Homer’s Odyssey: Plot, Language, Themes and Characters Revision or Homework Questions: This resource contains 16x question sheets on Books I, V-XIV, XVI, XIX, XXI-XXIII of Homer’s Odyssey. There are at least over 20 questions for each book which enables students to reinforce the knowledge they learn in class. There are practice exam style questions which are the language questions and the questions on Themes and Characters enable students to develop the higher order of thinking about Homer’s Odyssey. This is required to achieve top marks for the essay style questions.

This resource contains: 1x PowerPoint 1x Information Hand This lessons work well with the OCR Classical CIvilisation textbook - ‘Politics of the Late Republic’. At the start of this lesson students reflect on the key Roman values which were learnt in lesson one by focussing on the myth of Romulus and Remus. After, students use the information sheet to learn about the seven Kings of Rome and group their positive and negative actions. Finally, students think about the impact of the Roman’s rejecting their monarchy on the different groups in Roman society. A series of PowerPoints and worksheets on Solon's reforms and their consequences. The topics covered are: Problems before Solon in Athens; Why Solon was and his background; Solon's aims in his reforms; Solon's economic and political reforms; the consequences of Solon's reforms and a multiple choice test to check the pupils knowledge on the reforms. All PowerPoints have written comments in the notes section when certain sheets or ideas could be used. The books used to find the information for the worksheets are Pamela Bradley (Ancient Greece) and Thorley (Athenian Democracy) - these are core texts for the AQA Athenian Democracy specification. However, these sheets and PowerPoints can easily be adapted to fit other textbooks.

This resource contains 11 revision placemats covering Books VII, VIII, X, Xi and XIII (with at least two placemats per Book) of Virgil’s Aeneid. For each Book the revision placemats contain a summary of the Book, in depth analysis of the characters and key themes shown. These are an excellent revision tool which students can use at home or for last minute revision before an exam.

Homer’s Odyssey Key Themes Revision Placemats (x9) This resource contains 9 Revision placemats covering all the key themes in developed in Homer’s Odyssey (excellent revision for the OCR Classical Civilisations New A-Level exam). The placemats cover the following topics: Women Xenia Getting what you deserve Revenge Family Leadership Heroism/Kleos The role of the Gods Fate, Omens and Prophecies These are excellent revision tools and can be used to support the learning of students both within and outside of the classroom. I have printed them off for all my students on card and they often comment on how useful they are.

Homer’s Odyssey – Book XIV: In Eumaeus’ Hut (characters & themes) This resource contains: 1x PowerPoint Presentation 1x Characters & Themes Worksheet 1x False Tale Worksheet & more This lesson examines the characters and key themes in Book XIV (In Eumaeus’ Hut) of Homer’s Odyssey. The students first reflect on the key events of Book XIV by summarising the events using tweets. Students then examine the continuing themes in the second half of the Odyssey and false tales by completing the relevant worksheets. Finally, students complete the characters & themes worksheet.

Homer’s Odyssey – Book XIX: Eurycleia Recognises Odysseus (characters & themes) This resource contains: 1x PowerPoint Presentation 1x Characters & Themes Worksheet 1x Continuing Plot Events Worksheet 1x False Tales Worksheet This lesson examines the characters and key themes in Book XIX (Eurycleia Recognises Odysseus) of Homer’s Odyssey. The students focus on the key themes in Book XIX and how they are closely linked to the characters. Finally student complete the continuing events worksheet and false tales worksheet to evaluate the impact of these on the plot, themes and the characters.

Homer’s Odyssey – Book XXIII: Odysseus and Penelope (characters & themes) This resource contains: 1x PowerPoint Presentation 1x Character and Themes Worksheets This lesson encourages the students to examine the key characters & themes in Homer’s Odyssey Book XXIII (Odysseus and Penelope). First students reflect on the key events of the Book by competing against each other to win a prize. Students then examine the theme of reunion by focusing on the characters of Odysseus and Penelope. Finally students examine the character of Odysseus in Book XXIII and question whether or not he is more of a hero by the end of Book XXIII than he was when he landed in Ithaca in Book XIII.
