I made this fun booklet for my KS2 pupils to practise maths in a ‘real life’ situation based on planning a Christmas dinner and entertainment day for a family of 20 (10 adults and 10 children). They were amazed at the cost of the items (which are a bit more expensive in real life!) and gained a real insight into planning for an event.
There are 7 tasks in total with a task summary table for pupils to record their summaries at the end of each task. The pupils have a budget of £300 and must make decisions based upon their budget and costs of items such as food and entertainment.
Task 1 Party timetable – working out a timetable around set times.
Task 2 Total cost of food for 10 children and 10 adults. Percentage and fraction of votes for a particular meal option. Cost per head and total costs using addition and multiplication.
Task 3 Games and prizes for the day. Votes for 2 game choices, percentages and fractions plus working out how many games can be played in an hour. Multiplication and addition skills.
Task 4 Choosing entertainment. The cost and name of the cheapest show. Calculating the actual costs of two shows plus extras and deciding on the cheapest option.
Task 5 Total movie refreshments costs. Options for drinks/snacks and total costs.
Task 6 Calculating which movies are suitable based on running time v actual allocated time in the day. Selecting the best 2 options.
Task 7 Calculating total cost of all prizes.
There is an additional task for the children to create an invitation for this event and add ideas for extras for Christmas Day.
Adventure story template
KS1 & 2 Adventure story planning template. A resource for pupils to use to plan their own adventure writing. Includes a bullet point reminder of the rules for writing adventure stories and spaces for pupils to develop character description, setting and plan the structure of their story.

Africa today: Series of 6 KS2 power-point Geography lessons.
Each lesson is broken into short focused activities. There are opportunities for pupils to recall prior learning, participate in a short quiz, take notes from a YouTube clip, scrutinise and compare population graphs and weather charts (included on slides), research native animals and use maps and atlases to locate Africa’s countries and geographical features. Each set of slides contain images to help pupils ‘get a feel’ for the geography of Africa as well as simple information such as greetings flags of countries in the different regions at the beginning of lessons.

KS1&2 Easter story sequencing activity.
A simplified exercise to help pupils understand the order of the Easter Story which can be quite complicated to understand and remember.
Learning objective: To sequence pictures and statements and retell the Easter story in correct order.
Set of 12 images and descriptions of The Easter Story which can be organised in sequential order onto a storyboard template. There are three templates included which support differentiation and reading levels.
Template 1 (Higher ability) is numbered only and pupils order the story into the numbered boxes. Template 2 (Middle ability) is differentiated using key words from the main text in the numbered boxes.
Template 3 (Lower Ability) order the story into the numbered boxes with the support of key phrases which they can match to the main text.
Pupils can then use their completed templates to read as a group or class or talk to their partners about the Easter Story.

KS1 and Reception Pack of 30 PE warm up games/activities to develop:
Key skills: Familiarisation with space.
Awareness of obstacles and other children.
Respond to ‘stop’, ‘turn’, ‘change direction’ and simple signals.
Travel in different ways. Taking turns. Positional vocabulary.
Each game/activity can be used as a lesson starter to warm up the pupils and help them to practise the key skills. A list of resources is listed by each activity where needed.
Games included help pupils develop team work, understanding of rules and tactics or simple strategies. I have used these games and activities and have adapted the names of the games to match some of the topics I was teaching at a particular time.
The sun and our planet. EYFS/KS1 power-point of 36 slides.
This power-point can be used as a complete stand-alone lesson or as an additional spin off to related topics which encourage the pupils to think about the sun and how it affects earth. I have kept the information simple with a mix of slides and activities including a simple riddle, a short youtube clip, paired talk activities, a practical ‘ordering planets’ activity and an assessment challenge to make a booklet about the information learned. Each slide includes pictures which illustrate the key learning points. Useful alongside lessons or topics on sun safety, summer, space and planets etc.

Crime and Punishment Anglo Saxons resource pack. KS2
The pack is based around a fictional short story called ‘The False Oath’ set in AD 964 at the time of the reign of the last Viking king of Northumbria, Eric Bloodaxe. The description of crime and punishment in the story is based upon historical sources. A significant feature of Saxon law relied upon people telling the truth and behaving honourably. Men swore an oath of loyalty to a lord, part of which was a promise to obey the law. Oath breaking was a very serious offence. Swearing an oath on the bible was solemn and binding and if broken, people believed they would be condemned to persecution in the afterlife.
‘The false oath’ focuses on a young boy and his family find themselves at the centre of a feud over land with their Norse neighbours. Their actions see the family and their neighbour face Saxon justice in the Witan with far reaching consequences for everyone.
The story includes a historical context and notes.
I wrote the story myself after being unable to find resources which helped pupils understand the concepts, beliefs, ideas of democracy and justice, fairness and motivation surrounding the Saxon justice system rather than the punishments themselves.

Improving inference skills for reading. KS1 pack of 34 short activities.
Each story activity is based around a simple everyday task or activity. The information is implied within the text to encourage pupils to extract meaning from clues and draw conclusions. I wrote these activities to help my class of Y1 pupils improve their ability to extract relevant information from text but I have also used them with older and SEN pupils. Can be used as a lesson warm up with the whole class, in a small guided group or with a target group and a TA.

How to write a biography. Upper KS2. Set of five complete lessons with all worksheets and pupil resources. Includes a Biography checklist, sample biographies about Queen Victoria and Nelson Mandela, a blank biography spider-gram, blank planning templates (scaffolded) and a fact sheet about Mary Anning. KS1&2 The Great Fire of London story and sequencing activity.
Learning objective: To sequence and retell the story of the Great Fire of London in order.
Pupils cut out the images and descriptions and sequence the story onto a storyboard template. There are three templates attached which support differentiation and reading levels. HA template is numbered only and pupils order the story into the numbered boxes. MA is differentiated using key times when events took place from the main text in the numbered boxes. LA pupils can order the story into the numbered boxes with the support of key sentences which they can match to the main text.
