Eduqas GCSE Music Keyword Sort
A calm and low-stakes revision activity, perfect for checking that students know which musical terms belong to each of the elements of music.
Featuring all of the musical terms listed in Appendix C of the Eduqas GCSE Music specification, this revision activity requires students to organise the 240 keywords into the 12 elements of music.
Having a secure knowledge of which musical terms can be used to describe each element of music is essential in achieving success in the Appraising exam. This is especially important when answering questions that require students to describe how a particular element of music is being used within an extract of music.
Using coloured pens/pencils or highlighters, students allocate a different colour/pattern for each of the elements of music. Then, using this as a key, they match each of the keywords to the correct musical element. Some musical terms appear multiple times in the keyword table. Where this is the case, these keywords can be used to describe more than one element of music.
This resource includes a ready-to-print, blank copy of the activity, an example of a completed keyword sort, and a version that already has a colour allocated for each of the elements of music.

Badinerie Set Work Revision Activities for Eduqas GCSE Music
50 knowledge-based revision tasks for the Badinerie Set Work, as examined in the Eduqas GCSE Music Appraising exam. Topics include musical features, score analysis, keywords and definitions, contextual information, related music theory, and exam-style questions.
Having a secure knowledge and understanding of the set works is essential in achieving success in the Appraising exam. Just as you wouldn’t sit an English Literature exam without studying the required texts beforehand, you shouldn’t go into a Music exam not knowing the set works. After all, the set works account for 25% of the marks available, which can make a huge difference to final grades!
Designed to take no longer than 10 minutes to complete each task, these revision activities make a perfect addition to lessons in the run up to the Appraising exam: Do Now activities, revision lessons, cover work, home learning tasks, independent revision, and so on.

A set of 50 keyword cards to support students in revising their knowledge of musical terms in preparation for the Eduqas GCSE Music Appraising exam.
Cards #1 - #40 cover the musical terms listed in Appendix C of the Eduqas GCSE Music specification.
Cards #41 - #45 cover musical terms related to Set Work 1, J. S. Bach’s Badinerie.
Cards #46 - #50 cover musical terms related to Set Work 2, Toto’s Africa.
No two cards are the same, although most keywords do appear more than once.
Having a secure knowledge and understanding of these musical terms is essential in achieving success in the Appraising exam. If they do not know what an ‘anacrusis’ is, for example, how will they know if one features in the music they are listening to?!
Ideas for using this resource:
Display a keyword card on the board and have students write down and/or discuss the definitions of each musical term.

Eduqas GCSE Music 10-mark Question Planner
A planning sheet to support students in successfully answering the 10-mark question in the Eduqas GCSE Music Appraising exam.
A guaranteed part of the Eduqas GCSE Music Appraising exam paper, the 10-mark question requires students to explain how an extract of music achieves its intention. The first step is to identify the musical features of the extract, ensuring a broad range of elements are considered. The second step is to explain how these musical features help to achieve the intention of the music, as detailed in the question. This template helps students to ensure that their final answers will fully meet these requirements.
Once in the routine of completing 10-mark questions in this way, students can then quickly recreate the template in their exam papers.
