A revision resource for topic areas 1,2,3 and 4 in health and well being for child development . These checklists ( each one 5 to 6 pages long) will help learners to prepare for the exam by asking them to answer yes or no to questions related to the specification. There is a column for them to make notes on what they know or what they need to know. There are also some practice questions that will give them an idea of what to expect in the exam. The work is in word so can be easily adaptable to suit learner/tutor needs. I found it a useful tool to go through after each topic area to consolidate learning and assess learners understanding of the topic area and then revisit again after all teaching was completed and lessons where based around revision. 1.1 The expected development norms from one to five years A revision handout (6 pages) to help students understand the development milestones from birth to five years. Covers all relevant development areas with key terms highlighted to encourage learners to use these definitions in their assessments. 2.1 Types of Play – 2.2 Stages of Play – 2.3 Benefits on Development Also included is a table (6 pages) that looks at all aspects of play from birth to 5 years with suggestions of activities and how they develop and benefit the child holistically. 3.1 – A handout of information on the main types of observations carried in settings that students can read through in preparation for their work placement observations or preparing for their assessment. To support this there is a task sheet that enables them to evaluate the type, methods of recording, the advantages and disadvantages of each, how findings can be used to support all development areas and behaviours and finally how confidentiality and storing of evidence can be maintained safely. I found this a useful exercise to complete when access to IT for independent research wasn’t available. It can be done in groups in the classroom or set as homework or for independent study. It enables students to consider their preferred method when planning activities to be observed with their chosen child or children or when completing their assessment. 4.1 - An example of a narrative observation with reflection and further recommendations. Good as a starting point before students complete their own observations and activities. Word documents that are adaptable to suit needs of group. Research - Unit 4 - Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care - BTEC HSC Level 3

This is an introduction to Unit 4 Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care. Included is a short booklet to introduce the unit structure and how assessments work, key terms (student research task) the purpose of research and its benefits, some ideas for topics and a case study task to kick start the unit. There is also 3 PowerPoints to explain qualitative and quantitative research methods, primary and secondary research and the importance of being valid, reliable, non-bias and ethical. Also included is a short starter task, a research task on the different methodologies and their advantages and disadvantages and a practice task to allow the students to start to develop their research skills. Definitions for key terms included to support the teacher. I found it took the students a little while to understand that they were critiquing the research methods used rather than the article itself, once they had established this then they where able to carry out research more effectively. This introductory work enabled them to develop their understanding of research methods and the importance in relation to health and social care.
