I am an experienced functional skills and GCSE maths teacher. I teach mainly adults. I also teach apprentices so I have a wide variety of resources from whole class teaching to my workbooks which were originally developed for work with apprentice who come to my classes on a roll on roll off basis - lessons with apprentices are very exam focused trying to prepare them for exams as quickly as possibly. I enjoy a problem solving approach and like to develop resource suitable for adults.

This is a lesson to cover averages aimed at functional skills but could also be used for GCSE. Work book is 22 pages long and includes the basics of how to calculate and then goes into real life examples of distorted average and when each type of average should be used. PPT included with answers to the booklet and an activity for consolidation. Also included a page which could be blown up and used as a poster and misconceptions/ common exam errors. This is a GCSE maths lesson on circles. It includes a work pack and a basic power-point to explain the topics before working through the work pack. You should be able to simply print the work pack in one and off you go. Really minimal planning time needed but still a thorough lesson. Home work and plenary included and all answers are on the power point. All documents are easily editable so you can easily adapt for your lessons. The objectives covered are: Be able to: Name the parts of a circle. Calculate the radius when given the diameter and vice versa. Calculate the area and circumference of a circle. Here is a revision task I write to use with my adult groups during revision sessions. They are designed to be completed as independent revision tasks. They are 4 pages long and include the following: Calculate the weight of the clothes - Convert within metric (grams to KG) and Imperial to metric for L2. Work out the amount you will get from the clothes. Work out mean and range of sales (includes median and mode for L2) Draw a table (L1) and a bar chart (L1 and L2) Work out the percentage of days sales were over a certain number. Answers included. This a fun consolidation or revision activity for fractions. Students practice add, subtract and converting between, proper, improper, and mixed fractions to get to the target. This is a revision session written for functional skills maths L2. Starter is a BIDMAS recap The lesson plan is included and it is designed to be used as a carousel. There are 5 activities. Activity 1 is a tarsia (on PDF) to be used to revise fractions,decimals and percentages, ratio and rounding. There are 24 triangles altogether. Activity 2 is a formula answer hunt with 12 questions on substitute into formula Activity 3 is an averages problem solving task about football players average ages - topical for the wok cup. Activity 4 is about graphs and charts and includes 1 question on bar charts,1 on scattergraphs, 1 on pie charts and an extension tables. Activity 5 is lock question on measurements. It includes a mixture of questions on solving problems with 2d shape and converting between metric units. There is also an optional practical measuring activity which can be used in place of some of the measure questions. All these activites have a challenge extension aswell.
