This is a fully resourced primary scheme for guided reading or a book study of ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl. The focus is on reading and analysing this well-loved book, including developing key comprehension skills through shared and independent activities.
Each chapter of the book has its own teaching PowerPoint with pre-reading questions and discussion points, as well as independent comprehension tasks for the children to complete after reading. All activities are differentiated through the styles of questioning and cover a full range of important reading comprehension skills. Suggested extension and support activities are also included as part of the pack.
These engaging lessons give the children the opportunity to read, enjoy and discuss the book chapter-by-chapter, before reinforcing their skills on appropriate tasks. With all relevant resources included, the pack is also a great time-saver in the demanding area of preparing and planning effective guided reading lessons.
The lessons are aimed at Key Stage 2 and can easily be used for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. They are fully resourced with planning and all relevant supporting materials (including answers!).
The timing of each chapter’s lesson is approximately 30 – 60 minutes, depending on your guided reading timetabling and the amount of depth that is suitable for your class.

This is my best selling primary resource and is a set of lessons and activities for KS2 poetry work. These would also be ideal for use around National Poetry Day or World Poetry Day.
The lessons are based on ‘Revolting Rhymes’ by Roald Dahl. All lesson resources, differentiated activities and planning are provided as part of the pack.
I have used this pack for a week of activities linked to Revolting Rhymes, as well as for a one-off lesson on Poetry Day. It could also be used for a set of guided reading activities.
The teaching PowerPoint contains some background and introduction, as well as examples for modelling and discussing each independent task. The PowerPoint and the task sheets are provided in Word and pdf format.
There are 5 independent activities, so the pack can be used for a whole week or just for 1 or 2 lessons. Focus can also be on one of the Rhymes or on all six, depending on your requirements.
The flexibility of the lessons and the entertaining nature of the text means that I have been able to use this pack in Years 4 to 6, but it can also be easily adapted for younger children.

A topical lesson for KS2 work related to Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. This is ideal for some enjoyable and informative creative writing activities around 5th November. The lesson involves exploring the events surrounding the Gunpowder Plot and then using this knowledge to write diary entries by Guy Fawkes. A PowerPoint of 100 'what if' questions, which can be used for discussion in your class. This is an ideal resource for use in KS2 and upper KS1 and covers a variety of topics:
