Aimed at GCSE History classes and their teachers. These resources comprise a range of information sheets that include activties to test knowledge, understanding and skills. Visual sources are included where appropriate in each worksheet. The Powerpoint breaks down the build up to, the events of and the consequences of Bloody Sunday. The worksheets can be used as standalone resources or alongside textbooks and other reference materials. The presentation does not include any activities as it is inteded to prompt questioning and discussion amongst the class: note that the inquiries have passed judgement on the events of 30th January 1972.
20 AP World History Posters for use as display. These posters promote interest in historical thinking and raise awareness of the importance of the past. The quotes come from notable people from a variety of backgrounds. From Presidents and Prime Ministers to authors and scientists. These posters can be used to prompt discussion about specific issues, are suitable for use in promotional displays and for more able learners can be used to challenge their perceptions of what history is and why it should be studied. Combined with our other materials they can be used as part of a year binder or planner.
A straightforward and accessible introduction to the theory of the Four Humours. This provides an understanding of the theory than underpinned much of medical practice for thousands of years. The resource has simple but effective graphics to illustrate the logic behind the theory and a range of activities to develop and test understanding. Ideal for any classes studying medicine through time.
Thomas Hobbes’ Social Contract is one of the most important ideas put forward by a British Political theorist. Hobbes wrote his seminal work, Leviathan, in the midst of the turmoil of the civil wars that tore through England, Ireland and Scotland. Political concepts are difficult for many students to comprehend at A Level. Especially so when the context in which they were developed was so much different to modern society.
In these activities the context is explored to provide students with a grasp of what was going on around Hobbes as he developed his thinking. They consider how these events may have influenced his ideas before looking at specific issues. These are the nature of man, the rights to which they are entitled and the conflicts that this leads to. The Social Contract that is developed as a result of this theorising is then explored through a variety of activities.
Accompanying the activity pack is a file containing a range of sources and quotes about the work of Hobbes. This provides a bank of reference materials.
If you are teaching the Ancient Greeks you will probably see reference to the God Asclepius. Asclepius was one of the many Greek gods. He specialised in healing. It is likely that Asclepius was a real person who’s teaching spread throughout the City States. His followers built many temples such as the one in the cover image and supporting video. The Cult of Asclepius was active for over 700 years. Temples were built well into the Roman era.
This worksheet comprises an information sheet about Asclepius and an activity sheet. It highlights some of the key points about healing done at temples dedicated to Asclepius. The activities incorporate an element of numeracy as scaling is looked at by asking pupils to comprehend how long the cult lasted for through the means of working out how long the cult lasted for. It then asks them to consider what was happening in England 700 years ago and how much has changed. This can be used alongside a timeline to show the length of time the cult lasted and to open discussion about it’s significance.
A source based discussion can be undertaken based on the images used in the worksheet. Asclepius and his daughter Hygeia were shown on Roman coins in the 3rd century CE. The meaning and significance of this can be explored. Comparison with the people appearing on modern money (notes) will help to illustrate the importance.
Note: There are several spellings of Asclepius in common usage.
The resources in this bundle provide an introductory lesson to the Causes of the February Revolution in Russia. They are easy to differentiate, allowing access and engagement at all levels. Audio-Visual materials are included to enhance the learning experience. The order we would recommend the resources to be used is starter; sequencing task and then Changes in Russia.
This activity contains a brief decision making exercise followed by activities relating to treatments provided by the Cult. The decisions relate, in general terms, to options that may have been available to people with minor ailments. The follow up activities ask learners to think about the reasons for these treatments and the way that they compare to other forms of medicine that was practised in the ancient world.
The powerpoint presentation provides a text only narrative of the events of Bloody Sunday. It then goes on to outline the consequences of the day. The presentation is intended to be used alongside other materials that are already in your classroom, such as textbooks etc. It can be used by pupils as a point of reference when wanting to revise the key points. The you tune clip is a short clip that summarises the day. Images are kept to a minimum as the choice of the most appropriate ones varies based on the maturity of a class.
These resources are for GCSE Medicine Through Time teachers. The pack contains aoverview of the main charecteristics of the period and the way in which Medicine developed at te time. Accompanying resources allow learners to record teir findings about key events, continuity and changes at the time in a number of ways, thus allowing differentiation. The activities include examples. This resource pack has been used as an introduction to a study of the period and also provided to learners as part of their revision packs. It works well alongside my other resources on this period.
Using a range of sources and historical data, learners investigate and record the spead of the Great Plague. This provides them with a god understanding of the methodology of the day along with developing their awareness of the varied types of views held at the time. Data rich, this activity also illustrates how destructive infectious diseases could be and provides the basis for much discussion about changes in towns and cities over time. There are various activities within the pack which allows for differentiation or extension of the study over a series of lessons. Examples of audio visual presentations created by my classes as a result of this study can be found on my youtube channel or via the schoolshistory.org.uk website.
These two resources look at the story of the Norman Invasion through the Bayeux Tapestry. They can be adapted to include a sequencing task. Pupils are asked to check their understanding of visual sources by labelling segments of the tapestry accurately. More able learners can expand on the provided labels. The famous "death scene" is also assessed and acts as an exercise in introducing pupils to the fact that sources are easy to interpret in a number of different ways.
This activity is aimed at Year Seven pupils. It introduces them to the idea that events have consequences and that these vary in terms of their longevity. Here the pupils look at the short, medium and longer term consequences of the Norman Invasion. The examples on the worksheet can be expanded by using examples of modern language or architecuture that has survived since the early norman era: especially so if there are local examples.
A research recording aid for learners to complete. This was originally developed for revision purposes . It has since been used as part of an introduction to Medieval medicine. The format is very simple. Pupils find information and enter it onto the sheet. This can then be used as the basis of discussion. The sheet works well as a record sheet if classes are using research based games such as those developed by Paul Ginnis.

This revision frame is useful for students studying the February Revolution in Russia as part of a GCSE course. It is designed to revise and record key issues leading up to the February Revolution. The Youtube video will help students to recall knowledge from lessons. It can be used in Intervention sessions to record things that are discussed with individual students. It can also be used as a general homework task or as a recording sheet at the end of your classes study of the February Revolution.
Medicine through time resources. Includes active learning lessons, revision games, numerous worksheets, some stand alone lessons and a variety of starter and plenary activities. Easy to adapt and all proven in the classroom.
A game based loosely on the board game. This activity is an engaging method of revisiting key elements of Medicine in the Ancient World. It comes complete with rules, guidance and easy to cut out currency. Prior to playing this game my own classes have completed a research project into the Ancient World either in class at the end of Year 9 or as a homework project prior to beginning their GCSE study of medicine through time. The project booklet is included in this package, though is available as a free resource from my resource list.
A very straightforward research project booklet. As the newer courses tend to omit a study of Ancient Medicine this booklet can be used as a Year 9 / Holiday research task to help provide learners with some of the main points from the Ancient World. This should provide a firm basis upon which a study of Medicine in th Medieval World can be conducted. The booklet asks learners to consider factors, achievements and the things that impeded progress in Ancient Medicine.
20 Trivia Questions centred around history. This quiz is designed to provide a range of individual questions that can inspire curiosity, perk interest or provide a small bit of breadth to a cramped curriculum. They are intended as something that can be used on the board as pupils enter, or in tutorial/registration periods as a subject of discussion.
The questions are in quiz format quite simply as they might have uses when combined. Perhaps as a quiz at a PTA fundraiser or in a staff social event.
The questions are not designed to fit in with any specific curriculum objective. They are all as accurate as I can make them so in that respect they can help to paint a picture of what the world was like in specific places at specific times. Some questions, not all, could be set as short research tasks to build a broader knowledge.

Simple worksheet designed to be used alongside discussion and teacher prompts. It looks at some of the main issues that were faced by Henry VII in 1485 and the ways in which they could be tackled. Differentiation for this worksheet is largely down to the way that the teache leads the discussion. There are a wide range of suiable video clips available on sharing websites that can aid the teaching of this topic.
