This is a 7 year scheme of work for Biology
with a spiral curriculum approach that cover the key concept for each year group and revisits and builds up these concepts
including
Lesson title, Objective, differentiated out comes (Explore, Enhance, Excel - Higher and Foundation for Year 3, 4 and 5), Core Knowledge (highlighted in blue), suggested practical tasks, Text book pages (Hodder education used for A level), Keywords, Maths skills, Career links, Employability skills, Specification links, Prior learning (including KS2 for year 1 and 2), cross-curricular links (only completed for year 1 and 2), Oak national lesson links for online learning.
Each Topic also has a key learning statement and British core value statement
It is based upon the following specifications:
Exploring Science for years 1 and 2
Edexcel Biology (Separate and combined) for years 3, 4 and 5
and
OCR A Biology for years 6 and 7
This is an excel document that looks at the different topics in biology and identifies potential misconceptions within them and how to correct them.
It also links to applicable key stages.
This is used as a working document based on our school’s experience thus may be missing certain misconceptions so feel free to add your own.
4 Task sheets that cover P1, M1 and D1 for OCR Cambridge technicals level 3, Applied Science, Unit 18 Microbiology, LO1 Microorganisms
Each task sheet give a clear set of instructions of what students will need to include, broken down into smaller task. As well as some general guidance on layout and referencing.
Task sheet 1: covers P1 - Identifying microorganisms
Task sheet 2: covers M1 and D1 - Aseptic techniques, method and evaluation
Task sheet 3: covers: M1 and D1 - Growth Media, Colony morphology and Gram staining
Task sheet 4: covers: M1 and D1 - Serelogical and Genetic (PCR) testing
Flash cards for the ultrastructure of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells
when printed double sided, one side will have a photomicrograph of an organelle and the reverse will have a little fact file about that organelle.
9 cards with common hazard symbols on them, and a list of 3 ‘taboo’ words.
Students need to describe the symbol on the card with out using any of the words or the name of the symbols and their partner needs to correctly identify the hard symbol
An activity where students gather information about specialised cells from information sheets (I usually place them around the room) and complete notes on a corresponding table.
This activity covers the 12 main types of specialised cells that students will come across in the the EDEXCEL Combined science specification but would be suitable to for any exam specification or KS3.
