This fun and original assembly is designed to teach children all about Black History Month, including: -What Black History Month is; -Why we have Black History Month; -What life has been like for Black British people in the past and what it is like today; -Providing examples of influential Black British people and what they have achieved; -How Black History Month is celebrated. The slides are visually-engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. It includes links to well-chosen videos to emphasise/ reinforce key points, in addition to song suggestions. There is enough here for a 30-35 minute assembly (it is 21 slides long), but of course you can cut bits out/ tailor to your own individual needs. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included. I would say that the assembly is ideally pitched at KS2, but both KS3 and KS1 would be able to access it with only minor vocabulary/ language adaptations. This fun and original assembly aims to inspire children to be aspirational, through: -Understanding what aspiration is and recognising why it is important; -Finding out about successful and inspirational people who have been aspirational, gone on inspiring journeys and reached their goals (examples include Ed Sheeran, Beth Mead and Malala Yousafzai); -Demonstrating the power of aspiration through a powerful video - followed by discussion questions; -Looking at their own lives and considering how they can apply aspiration strategies (e.g. setting SMART targets, etc.) -Ending with reflection and a well-linked song. This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. This engaging and interesting lesson aims to improve students’ knowledge of the social, historical, and cultural context of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. It also aims to build their skills in creating clear and specific links between the text and it’s context, focusing on a specific extract from the novel. The lesson uses a range of tasks, that require students to use their visual and interactive skills. It follows this learning journey: - Understanding what dreams are and how they differ for each of us; - Defining the American Dream, The Wall Street Crash and The Great Depression; - Creating a timeline which visually depicts the other influential events of the time; - Reading and reflecting on an extract from the text; - Analysing the links between texts and contexts, from a success criteria; - Evaluating each others’ analytical attempts. This engaging investigation activity allows students to use develop their innovation, creativity and collaboration skills to control the direction of their enterprise project. The resource set guides students through the entire project, from conception to evaluation, and includes resources/ guidance for the following activities: -Deciding upon different roles within their groups, in order to carry out multiple tasks effectively; -Designing a company name and appropriate logo and slogan; -Researching their product area, including competitors and USPs; -Conducting market research; -Budgeting; -Detailed product design; -Packaging design; -Creating instructions for users; -Formulating and presenting a persuasive pitch; -Surveying the target audience for their feedback; -Self-evaluating strengths and areas for development. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation guides students through the project. There are at least a week’s worth of resources in here, enabling students to fully immerse themselves in the project. I orignally have used this with KS2 and KS3 students, but they could reasonably be adapted for students in KS4. In particular, they gain an in-depth understanding of how non-chronological reports are ordinarily set out on the page, what information should be included within them, and what style they should be written in, in order to meet form and purpose. This resource is perfect for enabling students to build both their persuasive writing and their speaking and listening skills. Students have the opportunity to research, design, pitch, and evaluate arguments for their own inventions, whilst simultaneously analysing persuasive pitches, revising persuasive techniques, structuring arguments and articulating convincingly. This CPD session offers an engaging and original approach to improving behaviour management practices. Grounded in educational research, this CPD session is interactive, well-structured, and has been successfully tried and tested. The aim of the CPD session is to develop the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed in order to utilise behaviour management even more effectively in lessons, and it achieves this by embarking upon the following learning journey: 1. This fun and original assembly aims to assist children in celebrating the differences between themselves and others, through: -Understanding how diversity is needed in the world; -Recognising and valuing the differences in their own school; -Considering how kind words can help us to unite together. I love leading this assembly, because I feel that the key message within it is so vital, especially in the present climate. More importantly, wherever I have presented this (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of the different ways in which they have celebrated differences in the months that follow!
