Edexcel GCSE Chemistry Revision Cards: Paper 1 Home Learning

An ideal home learning resource; these revision cards cover all the “learnable” Chemistry Paper 1 content. The cards come as an editable PowerPoint, with six cards per slide for students to cut out. There are eight slides (48 cards) for Combined students and ten slides (58 cards) for Triple students. The cards that are Higher only are indicated, so Foundation students can discard these. As students memorise the content of each card, they should be able to recall the information when prompted by a revision partner. As information becomes embedded, cards can be removed so the pile focuses on a smaller number of trickier concepts. Please note: these cards are designed to supplement NOT substitute for other revision. If all the material on these cards is memorised, it will give students a solid platform from which to achieve a very good grade. However, these cards are not sufficient to fully prepare students for the chemical calculations topics (only practice can prepare for this) or the technical aspects of the Core Practicals (practical experience is needed for this)

These topics are for Triple Science classes only, they are not needed for Combined Science students. This PowerPoint will allow you to teach students the GCSE 9-1 Chemistry content on Making Salts by Acid-Alkali titration. Note This does not cover the Triple-only content on titration calculations or performing a titration as part of a Core Practical; that is covered in a separate lesson for the Quantitative Analysis topic. This lesson is simply about using titration to make salts from acids and solubles bases, in contrast to the methods used for making salts from acids and insoluble bases. Full Lesson PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Dynamic Equilibrium. The resource is easy to follow for teachers and readily accessible for students. For Combined Science, Foundation students only need to cover the first two objectives; Higher tier candidates also need to learn about factors affecting the position of the equilibrium. Triple Science students also need to do the follow-up lesson (SC15b) on Factors affecting Equilibria. A clearer version of the worksheet can be downloaded from my shop in needed. This PowerPoint (containing a worksheet) will allow you to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Electroplating (Triple Science Only). It also contains slides that provide essential background for the Core Practical involving Electrolysis of Copper Sulphate (CC10a). The Core Practical prep can be taught separately but I find it fits better alongside electroplating for Triple Science classes. **Be aware: this lesson works best if you have access to Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Chemistry textbooks. It’s not essential; other resources can be used and all information needed for students to complete the worksheets is found in the slides. Consistent with the Chemistry specification, this lesson focuses mainly on drawing and understanding esterification between single carboxylic acid and alcohol molecules, rather than polymer chains. However, it does extend to encompass formation of polyesters for high-end students. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, HIGHER TIER ONLY. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols. **For one of the final summary tasks, you will need to get hold of Pearson Edexcel worksheet SC24c.2 “Monomers and Polymers”. Failing this, you could use slides 10 & 11 to prepare your own card sort which would substitute for the worksheet. Students’ progress can also be assessed simply using the yellow and pink box tasks on slide 9. **
