The flashcards / posters introduce students to a range of animals in French, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words âlookâ, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Students notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. Use this as a prompt to introduce the concept of gender in French.
There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. There are some insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps students become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which is really useful for both current and later learning.

Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set is aimed at beginner Spanish students of all ages, focusing on los meses y las estaciones del año. The word searches also include expressions such as el mes pasado and el mes que viene to broaden the range of relevant target vocabulary. Additionally, ordinal numbers primer-, Ășltimo, segundo and so on, provide a really useful language learning opportunity, and increase the challenge in a number of grids. Students have to apply their broader knowledge of Spanish in order to know which word to search for in the grid, for example el tercer mes del año es.... This makes the activity more comprehensive and engaging than a straightforward months and seasons of the year in Spanish vocabulary exercise.
The set features 10 differentiated word searches, with an increasing level of challenge. Grids 1-5 feature Spanish prompts and Spanish responses in the grid. Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading.
There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge:
= Challenge 1 features a range of clock times,oâclock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so itâs good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. The dominoes feature en punto to express oâclock, but itâs useful to point out to students that itâs not absolutely necessary, and theyâll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
= Challenge 2 features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
= Challenge 3*** also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge.
Thereâs definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to.

An instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. There are countries or regions where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Viet Nam. Each flashcards / poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. The posters feature the definite article, and this helps to embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.

Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in German, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set is aimed at beginner German students of all ages, focusing on the key verbs haben and sein. They introduce students to the concept of verb conjugation from the very beginning of their learning, which enhances their German across all four skills. They provide an popular alternative to more traditional grammar exercises or drills.
The set features 10 differentiated word searches, with an increasing level of challenge. There are 5 search grids with German prompts and German responses in the grid. Students also complete a list of corresponding conjugations in English for additional consolidation. These are followed by 5 search grids with English prompts and German responses in the grid. They also write out the corresponding German conjugations, as well as looking for them in the grid. Each grid is in landscape format, and has an accompanying answer key so that students can check their own responses.
This kind of activity is really versatile, and useful in a range of learning contexts: starters, refreshers, finishers, fun-time fillers or sub / cover lessons at any time during the school year, as well as during the period where the verbs are the current language focus. Students benefit from revisiting the word searches over several weeks until they are absolutely confident that they can conjugate the verbs accurately in any context.

25 high-frequency regular and irregular German separable verbs in the perfect tense. Several verbs require the auxiliary sein. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points theyâd like to work more on, map their progress and list any new German separable verbs they learn.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
The answer key is a separate file with six pages.
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and varied question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the prefix accurately in various grammatical contexts.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English translation. Students can engage with the differences in usage between English and German: for example: Du bist gestern abgefahren can only be translated as You set off yesterday because of the specific expression of time; Er hat nicht aufgehört as a standalone sentence can either be He has not stopped or He did not stop and I introduce this concept to students immediately, as it helps them avoid future errors.
= Conjugation Challenge 2: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Conjugation Challenge 3: Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize the correct conjugation, accurate location of the prefix, and a meaningful translation.
