For Year 8 low ability group on pancake day. Links in with current module (just starting food and drink - Expo 2, Module 4) but includes some cultural aspects on la Chandeleur and Mardi gras. Main idea for resource (pictures and vocab) taken from another TES resource (http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Les-cr-and-234-pes-6071144/) but I have added to it to keep my class busy for a whole lesson.

Reading task based on Expo 2 Vert p62 but extended (I have added an extra text and broken down the activities more). This is for a low ability group so begins with the basics - recognising food words they have done and underlining them. Then they have to identify which person mentions which foods, and there are some extension questions for the more able in the group to move onto.

Lesson aimed at developing dictionary skills prior to writing Controlled Assessment. The aim is for pupils to know what type of words they are looking up, and to be able to use verb tables correctly to avoid handing in work peppered with infinitives. All examples are the Oxford School French Dictionary as this is what our pupils use in exams. The conjugation game on the last slide was sent to me by a colleague who found it on TES - you may need to search for it to get a clearer copy than my screeshot.

Reading task to revise the perfect tense with Y9 after teaching illness with 'j'ai mal au...'. Pupils match 2 halves of sentences and work out which illness would result from which activity. As extension, I set 'find the French' on various time phrases and connectives used in the speech bubbles.

Exercises to practise correct use of negatives with verbs in the perfect tense.

Pupils work out new vocab using cognates and process of elimination. Then checked answers via powerpoint or Taskmagic game. Later in lesson gave list of French vocab for them to fill in English (recording vocab but also a test of what they've learned).

2 lessons for a top/middle set Year 10 class. Focus is on getting pupils to write good sentences to include in controlled assessment preparation, exposing more able pupils to advanced structures without making it too scary for those who struggle more. EDIT: Just to say that several of the slides come from other TES resources so many thanks if you spot your own work.

Simple lesson to revise/introduce personality. Designed for a cover lesson, to ensure classes whose teacher is absent will have covered the same content.

Starter worksheet to recap job titles

Foundation level reading activity. Account of a weekend. Perfect tense. Leisure activities, cinema.

A worksheet aimed at preparing a very low ability (Y11 SEN) class for the FCSE Reading papers on the topic of Holidays. Covers key vocabulary needed for the paper that they won't necessarily have covered before as the FCSE papers can be a bit random.

To recap job titles, agreements, and how to say what job someone does.

Year 7 reading activity with three short texts including opinions and reasons. Could be suitable for cover work. Part 1 - match pictures to the texts. Part 2 - true or false.

Various activities used as starters or plenaries during topic on hobbies, sport and the weather. Includes - 3 in a row (girls vs. boys - pupils must say phrase correctly based on picture to claim the square), gapfill, find the mistakes, settling match-up in books starters, and a game for plenary.

Pupils had covered perfect tense during module on hobbies/leisure in the previous term but had had a bit of a break from it. Used quiz to get them thinking about it again and prepare to apply it to the current topic. Could use to test how much they remember, or let them use their exercise books (opportunity for them to evaluate how good their note-taking is and if their books will help them revise).

First lesson for low ability beginners group on clothing. Revision of colours, presentation of vocab, beat the teacher repetition game, reading and writing task, true or false plenary (did this as thumbs up/down).

Used with high/middle set Y10 classes. Some mistakes should be obvious enough for all to spot (eg: infinitive instead of past participle) whilst others are more challenging.

Reading text suitable for Y9 or KS4. Description of primary school (c’était, il y avait) and ideal school (ce serait, il y aurait) plus other verbs in the imperfect and conditional tenses. Could lead to practice of these structures and students producing their own written work.

Adjectives Intensifiers Comparatives Aimed at Y7 to support written homework.

A few lessons for a Y8 class. Using TV genres, telling the time, and introducing the past tense with one verb ready for doing the past tense in a bit more detail next lesson.
