KS3 Full scheme of work, this took my year 9 classes a half term. I have taught both upper and lower sets so there is a variety of activities.

These lessons look at ten poems and teach many key words in detail.
Lessons include:

  • starter activities/do nows
  • pre, during and post reading stages
  • variety of activities like predicting, word clouds, quote explosions etc.
  • A focus on writing- modelled and scaffolded for upper and lower sets
  • context
  • echo reading

Key words focused on (but are not limited to):

  • caesura
  • enjambment
  • semantic field
  • oxymoron
  • plosive
  • tone

Poems are as follows:

  1. The Eagle
  2. I wandered lonely as a cloud
  3. Identity
  4. Havisham
  5. Still I rise
  6. Hope is the thing with feathers
  7. I’m nobody! Who are you?
  8. Mother to son
  9. The way through the woods
  10. Exposure
