


In this lesson students will learn what distillation is, what mixtures it can be used to separate, and describe the process of distillation and carry out their own simple distillation of a cola drink.
This lesson is designed to allow students the opportunity to plan their own practical method given a list of possible equipment, allowing students to develop their group work and reasoning skills.
This lesson is the fourth lesson in the “Atomic Structure” topic. This topic is designed to act as a “bridging topic” between KS3 and KS4 chemistry.
