We are seeking an exceptional Key Stage 2 Class Teacher to join our vibrant and inclusive learning community at Barra. Key Responsibilities:
● Deliver high-quality, engaging, and differentiated lessons that inspire curiosity, independence, and a love of learning in Key Stage 2 students.
● Foster a warm, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that reflects our value of compassion, ensuring every child feels seen, supported, and valued.
● Model integrity through professionalism, honest communication, and ethical decision-making in all aspects of school life.
● Plan and assess effectively to support all learners, using data to guide instruction and promote continuous progress.
● Work collaboratively with colleagues and families to create a positive, connected learning experience.
● Demonstrate determination in helping students overcome challenges, encouraging resilience, and celebrating growth and effort.
● Participate actively in school events, extracurricular activities, and community initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements:
● A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent) is essential.
● At least 3 years of experience teaching Primary students in Key Stage 2, preferably in an international or bilingual context.
● Fluent in English (native-level or equivalent); experience in bilingual or EAL environments is a plus.
● Familiarity with inquiry-based learning and international curricula (such as the IPC) is desirable.
● A strong commitment to nurturing the whole child and contributing to a values-driven school culture.
● A commitment to child-centred learning, inclusion, and ongoing professional development.

The British School, Rio de Janeiro (TBS) was founded in 1924 and is a co-educational, non-selective, non-denominational, international, non-profit school serving students from the ages of 2 to 18 years. The school has an enrolment of around 2160 students across 3 school sites in the city of Rio de Janeiro: Botafogo (Primary); Urca (Secondary); and Barra (Primary and Secondary). TBS is an international school catering for over 30 different nationalities, although the largest proportion of around 85% is Brazilian, or locals with dual-nationality. The British School, Rio de Janeiro follows: the International Primary Curriculum (including Early Years) in the Primary sections at Botafogo and Barra; the UK Key Stage 3 curriculum for students from 11 to 14 years of age; and Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma programme in the last 4 years of the Secondary sections in Urca and Barra. Apart from Portuguese and foreign languages, all classes are taught in English.
