Block 3 Termly Year 3 Maths Assessments YouTube and PowerPoint

I have developed a series of termly Year 3 Maths assessments based on the Wigan maths assessments. I have created both Youtube videos and PowerPoints around these tests. There are two different Year 3 Maths assessments. In the first you ask a question and everyone answers it and then you have a choice of two different assessments. In the first, the answer appears after the question and this one is useful if you are using a Block 2 Year 3 assessment as a revision tool as everyone can discuss how they found their answer. They can also use it to see how well they are doing during their termly Year 3 assessment. The second type is the traditional ask all the questions first, swap papers and check each of the answers which is all great and has its own merits. I hope you like this new approach to teaching maths in the classroom as I do plan to make a lot more lessons which are similar to this in the future.

Are you learning Polish? Are you looking for fun images to share with your students? I took my ESL course and I adapted it to help teachers also teach Polish. The worksheets are in English but there are 57 different settings and 114 pages of worksheets to translate into Polish. Students can use these pictures as a focus for their conversations and also for fun end of lesson games, where they recall the new vocabulary used in each session.

If you are learning Dutch and you are looking for a way of translating from English into Dutch, then this is a great start. This resource would still need a dutch teacher as everything is in English. You look at the pictures and try to name things in Dutch.

When I used the original book with an interactive whiteboard, I was always annoyed at having to skim to the end of the book to show an answer. I wanted it on the next page. In addition, I have now replaced all the pictured with much more stimulating colourful pictures. I have also taken the time to follow the advice of Dudley council and sorted the different problems into age groups and blocks. You will notice there is some repetition of problems both between blocks and in different year groups. The students can try the same problem twice at different times, as this is excellent consolidation. It is also an excellent time to suggest students think about how they could change the problem. How can this be used in the classroom? This could be used as an assessment at the start or the end of a unit. It also could be used as an emergency set of lessons for any teacher while covering another teacher’s maths classes. In addition, it is also an excellent set of resources to prepare for different exams. Look at how the students resolve a problem and identify the different ways different students attempt to answer the same problem. In addition to answering the problems, this is also an excellent time to look into inverse operations. How do we know we have found all the answers? How do we know we have found the correct answer? I have really enjoyed making these mental maths problems a lot more accessible. I have enjoyed teaching them in a wide range of different classes and I hope that you too will enjoy making maths fun.
