What’s included?
This download includes three pdf sheets, portrait, in colour/B&W featuring ten images that all begin with the ‘d’ sound. The images can be matched to reinforce knowledge of the ‘d’ sound as well as ordering the images to make a miniature ‘Dd’ book (included).
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
This resource is to reinforce learners knowledge of the ‘d’ sound, to practise matching two items with the same sound and to use their knowledge of the alphabet to make a a miniature ‘Dd’ book.
This is a fun and engaging way to practise recognising the letter d, reinforcing learners knowledge of the initial ‘d’ sound and developing the skill of ordering items alphabetically.
This resource is designed to be used by itself, however as other sets are available different sounds could be combined and presented to learners for them to sort according to which initial sound the different (mixed) images have.
How to use it?
All sheets can be printed onto paper. Page 3 can be made into a miniature book (simple instructions included). To make a book scissors and a glue stick are all that is needed. Once the book is made either the colour set of words/images (page 1) OR the black and white set of words/images (page 2) can be cut and ordered alphabetically and then stuck into the miniature book (one word/image per page).
Page 1 is the colour version of words/images which all begin with ‘d’. These can be cut up (using the dotted lines as a guide for where to cut). Page 2 is the black and white version of page 1 but in addition includes the outline of each word with a starting dot for each letter - encouraging learners to write the word for each image themselves. Learners can also colour these images.
Pages 1 and 2 could be used together as two sets of cards to play a pairs/matching game, for this these pages would be better printed onto card (so that the images cannot be seen through the back as would be the case if using paper).
Resource details
The images included for d are:
deer, diamond, dinosaur, dog, dolphin, domino, donkey, door, doughnut and dragonfly.

What’s included?
This download includes x3 A4 portrait pdf sheets. These include three dice to make, x2 ‘game cards’ and simple, clear instructions for how to play the game.
What’s it for?
This resource explores CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant, e.g. ‘dog’) words to read and write. Learners use their phonic knowledge to make and read words rolling and ordering the three dice provided. Learners then write these words in a list - deciding if each word is ‘real’ or ‘nonsense’.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Red Die 1 (page 1)
Includes sounds s b h m p r
Amber Die 2 (page 2)
Includes sounds a a e i o u
Green Die 3 (page 2)
Includes sounds ck d g ll n t
How to use this resource
An adult needs to cut out and make the three phonics dice - clear instructions are included. Each player will need one game card (and a pencil!) There are two game cards included on page 3 - these can be printed/photocopied as many times as needed and the sheet cut in half to separate the two game cards (one per player).
This game can be for one learner to play alone or for several learners to play together in a group (taking turns).
The game instructions are included on pages 1 and 3 of the download - I will also include them here:
How to play game
Each player takes turns to roll the three dice together.
Each player places the three dice next to each other, left to right - red, amber, green.
Player sounds out the graphemes to read the word.
If this is a ‘real’ word player writes it in the coloured boxes on their card (on the ‘left’ side). If this is a ‘nonsense’ word the player writes this word in the coloured boxes on their card (on the right side).
Play passes to next player.
If a player rolls the same combination as previously rolled they can have another turn.
First player to roll (read and write!) x5 real OR nonsense words wins!
There are various words which can be made using this combination of letters in the set order. Some ‘real word’ examples include sat/bat/hat/mat/pat/rat, pig/bill/hill/mill/pill, pull/bug/hug/mug/rug, sock/rock/hog, hen/men/pen/red/bell/sell. I hope you have fun finding them all - real AND nonsense!

What’s included?
This download includes x3 A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise reading and writing CVC words mostly within Phase 2. Two sounds in this set - (j and sh) are in Phase 3.
What’s it for?
This activity is interactive and encourages learners to sound out and read simple CVC words and think about what these words mean. Some words of course may have more than one meaning, however for the purpose of this activity there is one illustration for every word. For words which are ‘new’ learners may need to work by process of elimination to identify the correct word/picture combination to record this (in writing) on the sheet provided.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes one ‘CVC wheel’ to make with easy to follow instructions. Once the wheel is assembled once turned different initial letters are revealed to make x9 ‘_ug’ CVC words.
Words/pictures included are:
bug
dug
hug
jug (j is a phase 3 sound)
mug
rug
slug
shrug (sh is a phase 3 sound)
tug
ALL words are ‘real’ (not ‘nonsense’) words.
Differentiation
Also included is one sheet in two levels of difficulty. The first sheet only has the initial sound missing (easier), the second sheet has ALL letters missing - for learners to write on the lines provided (more challenging). The level of difficulty is indicated by an icon at the base of each sheet (right side) - green for easier, red for more challenging.
There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of each sheet (left side). The CVC phonics wheel can be reused time and again.
Suggestion
Card is best to use for making this resource as it is stronger and much more robust than paper, making the phonics wheel easier to turn (for learners) and will last longer. Laminating this resource would be ideal if you have the time.

What’s included?
This download includes six pages (x6 A4 sheets, portrait orientation) featuring one word search for number names from ‘one’ to ‘twenty’ (page 1) and the answers - clearly showing where all words are hidden (page 2). The wordsearch letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font.
Who’s it for?
This simple, clear resource has been carefully designed to encourage young readers especially pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Knowing these number names (words) is also an important part of maths in these year groups as questions and information often includes the number name as the written word (e.g. ‘three’) instead of the more easily recognisable numeral (e.g. ‘3’).
Resource layout
The twenty number name words have been organised into four groups of five, clearly showing all hidden number words in order up to twenty. There are x20 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (up and down - both directions). Directional arrows on the answer sheet (page 2) make it clear exactly where to look if learners get stuck.
The version of this word search which includes numerals is ideal for those learners either needing the additional support of having the numeral AND the number name shown together. For learners who would like an extra challenge, the numerals from 1 - 20 are all also hidden within the wordsearch. Once the learner has located each of these they could be circled on the wordsearch and ticked off in the box below. The numerals have been included in a variety of font styles to encourage learners to get used to recognising numerals written differently.
On the colour/black and white versions of the word search there is a space in the four boxes (under the wordsearch where the hidden words are displayed) for learners to write the numerals next to the number names themselves.
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible - if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused, or the black and white version is a good version for photocopying.

This resource has been designed to enable learners to practise handwriting the second set for phase 3 phonics sounds - zz qu ng ch sh th. This is the sixth set in the ‘phonics handwriting set’ - which begins with phase 2 sounds. Learners are guided where to write with a starting dot and grey letter shape to follow. The four different sheets for each set vary in level of support and challenge provided making it easy for adults to select just the right level to match each learners ability. Learners could begin at sheet 1 and revisit these letters working through sheets 2 - 4 which incrementally provide less support yet more challenge each time.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource details
Set 6
This set includes handwriting practise for x6 sounds - zz qu ng ch sh th. This set has been split into two, 6a and 6b. Set 6a includes x4 sheets to practise writing the sounds zz qu ng. Set 6b includes x4 sheets to practise writing the sounds ch sh th.
There are four sheets included (for both sets), slightly different in design and level of challenge/support provided, though each sheet is numbered 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet). These numbers (and the cover image) left to right indicate the levels in order of easiest to hardest. Sheet 1 provides the most support with the least amount of challenge, sheet 4 provides the least amount of support with the most challenge. The different designs makes it easier to select the level that best suits your learner/s.
Page 1
Learners have one set (row) of each letter/sound to write - using the starting dot and dotted lines (on top of each pale grey letter shape) as a guide.
Page 2
Learners have four sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes the same (grey) letter shapes for learners to trace over without a starting dot and without the dotted line guides.
Page 3
Learners have four sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes some grey letter shapes for learners to trace over with a starting dot. There is also a blank space (with a starting dot) for learners to write their own letters after this for every letter.

What’s included?
This download includes three A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise reading and writing CVC words within Phase 2.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the CVC Phonics Wheel can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesn’t matter.
Some words will be ‘real’ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real/will be ‘nonsense’ words e.g. len/ren - these can be written on page 3 - there is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet).
Suggestion
For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ‘real’ words e.g. ‘fen’ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England).

What’s included?
This download includes x4 A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters using an alphabet strip (showing capital letters) and carrots (for lowercase letters). Two pages include instructions on how to make a rabbit face into a ‘posting box’ with clear photos supporting each step.
An empty tissue box is needed to make this resource. Dotted guide lines show where to cut. There are also two ‘slits’ which need making and a hole to be cut (inside the rabbits mouth) - these may be best made using a craft knife (used well away from little people!) This resource is designed for an adult to make ‘for’ learners to use.
What’s it for?
This resource has been designed to practise recognising and matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters and to become more familiar with the ‘alphabetical order’ of all alphabet letters.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed to be used by early years children and pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The photo shows how this resource looks which complete. The idea is that learners move the capital letter alphabet strip left/right to show a different capital letter. They then ‘post’ the matching lowercase alphabet letter (carrot!) into the rabbit’s mouth. This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent.
I have included two versions of the letter ‘k’ as some learners may be more used to the look of one style than the other. There is also a ‘blank’ carrot included in case one gets lost.

What’s included?
This download includes four resource sets. In total this is x4 sheets, landscape orientation, pdf format. These resources are to read/sound out high frequency words (nouns). This set of words has been grouped as words that can be sounded out from phonics Phases 2, 3, 5 and 6+ and a tricky word set.
What’s it for?
These x4 resource sets are a selection of the first 200 high frequency words to look more closely at nouns. Learners can sound out nouns and become more familiar with seeing/reading them on sight. Learners also match the nouns with the corresponding pictures. All words have been sorted into colour groups depending on which phonics phase they fit in with so words can be introduced at the right time for your learners.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for pupils in Year 1 who are learning these sounds (and words) for the first time, pupils in Y2 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds/words. This resource is ideal for pupils with EAL (English as an Additional Language) and suitable for older learners with additional learning needs.
How to use it?
Learners follow dotted lines to cut out words at the base of the sheet and sound out graphemes to read the nouns. Learners then match noun words with the pictures - positioning the words in the boxes underneath the pictures. Words are to be secured with glue once learners are happy they have matched each noun and picture correctly.
Top tip!
To avoid words getting lost encourage learners to only cut out one word at a time. Once learners have secured each word to the sheet (with glue!) they can move on to cutting out the next word.
Resource Details…
These words are from the list of ‘first 200 high frequency words’ to read and spell.
KEY
Words have been organised depending on which phonics phase they fit in with. This colour coded system is made clear by the ‘key’ at the top, right side of each resource sheet.
pink indicates that the words are from phase 2
purple indicates that the words are from phase 3
turquoise indicates that the words are from phase 5
grey indicates that the words are from phase 6+
underlined indicates that together underlined letters have one sound, for example ‘ow’ in ‘town’
red letters indicate the tricky letters. Red/tricky letters includes ‘irregular’ letters/sounds.
For the tricky word set learners should focus on the black letters in the words as these will help them decode and work out what the word might be.

What’s included?
This download includes x6 A4, pdf sheets (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting all lowercase letters. Letters have been grouped according to how they are written - by similar shape and orientation. There are x5 sets included in total.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
These unique resources have been designed to really focus in on the detail - making how to write each letter as clear as possible to learners.
This resource has been designed to encourage autonomy and so self confidence while making the process as clear as possible for learners to follow once they understand the colour order to follow (shown at the top of every sheet as a reference) and the meaning of each coloured ‘dot’ (also clearly displayed at the top of every sheet).
How to use it?
Learners are clearly guided on exactly where to place their pencil to begin writing each letter (identified by a green dot). Changes in direction (requiring a momentary pause) are indicated with an orange dot (as with an amber traffic light - indicating waiting and thinking). Where to stop (and remove the pencil from the paper) is indicated with a red ‘stop’ dot.
Learners are also visually guided by a uniform colour system showing the direction to follow which is further reinforced by directional chevron shaped arrows.
Resource details
The font used is Sassoon Infant Std.
This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and coloured chevron lines providing guidance of exactly where (which direction) to write.
Letters are grouped into these sets. Set numbers are included on every sheet.
c o a d g q (Set 1, x1 page)
r n m h b p k (Set 2, x2 pages)
l i j t (Set 3, x1 page)
u y v w (Set 4, x1 page)
s f x z e (Set 5, x1 page)
Learners can write their name on the line provided at the base of the sheet and record the longer word-date (top, right).
All letters are positioned on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line.

What’s included?
This download includes nine A4, portrait pdf sheets which make a number matching set featuring x54 cards which includes all letters of the alphabet with an image to match.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
This resource is to practise identifying the initial sounds for x26 images and matching these to the written letter/sound (grapheme). Both upper and lowercase letters are including - helping to reinforce both.
How to use this resource
This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on a ring. Learners look at each picture card and (if they are able) say what it is. Learners then say the initial sound for each picture and match the ‘picture’ card to the alphabet ‘letter’ card which shows the same initial sound. Once the set is matched into pairs (picture and letter cards together) learners can then order the card pairs from the beginning to the end of the alphabet or in reverse which can be much trickier!
Pictures included are apple, banana, car, dog (Dachshund!), egg, frog, grass, house, ink, jam, key, lemon, milk, nine numbers, orange, pink pig, quarter, robot, sun, tree, upside-down umbrella, van, wall (not to be confused with ‘bricks’ !) xylophone, yellow yoyo, zebra.
This alphabet matching set could be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to cross-check the correct orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing.
Games
This ‘Alphabet Match’ set could also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the picture cards or all the letter cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up.
Suggestion
Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) as seen on the main resource image are ideal for this resource and can be purchased online easily. Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small amount of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource.
