Spanish Cover Lesson Loosely based on Viva 1 pp 104 + 105 "What is there in your city?" ¿Qué hay en

A very self-explanatory worksheet useful for cover lessons in Spanish. It is loosely based on pages 104 and 105 of Viva 1, second edition on the topic of “What is there in your city?” ¿Qué hay en tu ciudad? Answers can be completed in exercise books or on lined paper (to make them last longer!). There are some exercises which use words and phrases not in Viva, but they are easily guessable, or pupils can use a dictionary. Answers and translations are also provided for non-specialist cover teachers.

GSCE German General Conversation Booklet Extra Easy Version

GSCE German General Conversation Booklet Extra Easy Version

(0)
An extra easy version of my general conversation booklet for students who get overwhelmed when faced with too much. Each question is provided with a very simple writing frame to help structure very simple one or two line answers. I have also cut out a lot of the more difficult topics such as poverty, charity work and environment. I will be giving this booklet to my students who, at the moment are even struggling to get a grade 4, as they have no idea where to even start with their speaking preparation.

GCSE German Umwelt (Environment)

A full lesson (can also stretch to 2) I did as an observation with Y11 on the topic of "Umwelt". It concentrates on the skill of writing for the outgoing controlled assessments, but it will still be very useful in the new spec as it is also about general writing skill and translation. This lesson comes with a PP, handouts, a help sheet for foundation candidates and ABCD posters for the plenary, where students had to turn to the correct letter stuck around the room. This lesson has been awarded "outstanding" twice. It is based on the Heinemann Higher book for GCSE but includes a help sheet for weaker pupils. I can also send you the lesson plan on request.
Peppa Pig (Peppa Wutz) German Christmas Winter Snow Activity

Peppa Pig (Peppa Wutz) German Christmas Winter Snow Activity

UPDATED DEC 2018 TO INCLUDE A NEW YOUTUBE LINK. THE OLD VIDEO HAD DISAPPEARED! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPnxvZ9OUZo A lesson based on the German Peppa Pig episode “Schnee”. Would be good as a Christmas activity, that’s not just “watching a video” and has lots of educational content. Covers lots of winter vocab (to do with snow), body parts (on the snowman), clothes (hat, gloves etc.) and lots of basic verbs (bauen, machen, lachen, weinen, finden, sagen, fragen) mostly in the present tense (one bit in the perfect) and adjectives (kalt, warm, zufrieden). Includes a starter with extension, a gap fill and a vocab translation exercise. Oh, and another file with answers. Edit: I’ve added a work sheet with gaps to be filled. This can also be cut up and used as an ordering exercise. Another edit: I’ve added an easier version. I used the harder one with Y10 and top set Y9 and the easier version with Y9 middle sets.

Boppard Treasure Hunt/Town Trail German Trip Activity UPDATED JUNE 19

Boppard Treasure Hunt/Town Trail German Trip Activity UPDATED JUNE 19

(1)
UPDATED JUNE 19. SOME OUT OF DATE QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND I’VE ADDED THE ANSWERS AS REQUESTED. A treasure hunt that I use every year on my Rhine trip to the Boppard area. The treasure hunt takes around an hour and you can edit it to meet students wherever you want (I suggest in a nice warm café with Kaffee und Kuchen). It starts in the main square and I suggest sending group off with staggered timings, or even get different groups to start at different questions. I also give extra marks for speed, as long as they have answered everything! You can also give extra points for asking them to answer some questions in both German and English (I have done this on some but not all) PLease note, I cannot guarantee this will be still up to date when you use it!

AS German Familienbeziehungen (Family)

I made this lesson for a Year 11 taster session in the summer term. I wanted to pick something they were familiar with, so chose the topic of "family" but used resources from Zeitgeist rather than Nelson Thornes 1) because I think Z is easier and 2) because we use NT in Year 12 so didn't want them repeating the same work later. It comes with a PowerPoint, handouts and a vocab sheet. You can make this last 2 hours if you include the extra grammar activity. This can, of course, also be used with actual Y12s!

Why learn a language/celebration assembly/open evening/prize giving PowerPoint/German/French

This is a PowerPoint I used in our MFL celebration assembly. It has recent quotes from the Independent and the Guardian about the importance of languages, a slide explaining how learning a languages benefits pupils, a Wordle type graphic showing the main skills that come out when you enter articles/surveys about language learning, a slide which shows specifically why students have been chosen as winners and some slides to add the names of winners. This could also be used on open evenings and around options time and also for general display in MFL faculties.

Two versions of a GCSE German speaking preparation booklet, one with sample answers and one without for students to prepare themselves. Both booklets are foundation level. A similar booklet for higher is also available.

This is a bundle of resources to help Year 10 pupils write answers to suggested speaking questions for Theme 1, Unit 1, although it could be used for other revision too. It is based on the Kerboodle book and I have taken suggested questions from the book only, so that most can be answered with mainly what is in the book, and not many additional resources. Where additional resources are required, I have provided them. Included is: A vocab sheet focusing on key words from the topic. A grammar sheet focusing on how to say what you do/did/will do with your family/friends in different tenses (I included this as there was not much in the book on it and the other tenses are not studied in detail until later on in the book. It is suitable for pupils who have studied other tenses in KS3 and need a reminder. Example sentences can be adapted by them, even if they don’t fully understand how to use the tenses yet. Example answers to the suggested speaking questions with a bullet point list of grammar points they can spot and highlight before attempting their own answers. A sheet for their own answers including a checklist of the aforementioned grammar points. A PowerPoint to bring it all together.

At least 3 lessons worth on the environment topic. Focuses on the top 10 biggest environmental problems in the world. Includes a video with transcript, gap fill and retranslation activity. Also included is a vocab sheet for one of the starters. This is quite challenging, so more appropriate for higher candidates, but foundation can also access it with the support provided.

This is the Smart Notebook document to be used alongside my grammar booklet. Both resources can be used on their own or together. The benefit of having the Notebook version is that answers can be revealed to the whole class. This resource covers basic grammar for GCSE Level with simple explanations, exercises and solutions. None topic specific, simple vocabulary is used so that the focus stays on grammar and exercises can be slotted in at any time, regardless of topic being studied. This can also be used in the orientation phase of Year 12 and selected parts are appropriate for good KS3 classes. 20 different grammar points are covered over 72 pages. Please see below. Contents • Personal Pronouns • The Present Tense of Regular Verbs • Irregular Verbs in the Present Tense • Haben and Sein • Separable Verbs • The Perfect Tense with Haben • The Perfect Tense with Sein • The Perfect Tense with Haben and Sein • The Future Tense • Modal Verbs • Word Order (Simple) • Word Order (Complex) • Word Order (Time, Manner, Place ) • Prepositions with the Dative Case • Prepositions with the Accusative Case • Dual Case Prepositions • Plurals • Relative Clauses • Questions • Comparatives and Superlatives
