Focus on French ER verbs, also featuring a broad range of other French verb groups, including both auxiliaries être and avoir. Students may find access to a bilingual dictionary helpful. The questions are aimed at intermediate French into advanced intermediate French students, and are ideal for multi-skill language learning. A range of grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as preceding direct object agreement and negative sentences in French. There are translation questions from both French into English and English into French. It is important for students to learn that ‘word for word’ does not work successfully as a translation strategy, that rendering language into what speakers of either language would actually say / write, or how they would express something either verbally or in writing, may be either quite similar, or quite different. Tense usage differs between the languages too, and the answer key reflects this for additional consolidation. The important thing to convey in their translation is accurate meaning. The set comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible, as the cards are more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. To save prep time, simply laminate the individual pages of question cards, which works just as well, particularly with pair or small-group work. = answer key & answer recording sheet The Lively Learning Classroom offers a wide range of French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing how to tell the time in Spanish, and for pronunciation practice too. There are 8 clock faces per page. Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. Students can also set the cards on a table, so that they can see the timeline clearly. Playing in teams, against a time, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Tengo… ¿Quién tiene…? = Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, ¿Tienes…? FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES PRIMARY FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS2 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS3 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS4 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES 10 DIFFERENTIATED WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS AND FRENCH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST Files are non-editable in a zipped format. This product is copyright, all rights reserved. It is illegal to copy, rewrite, amend, share or distribute it, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-use license only. School / departmental licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 30 French Christmas words, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some French-speaking countries Christmas traditions and figures, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which I’ve translated here as Father Fouettard, rather than Whipping Father. The vocabulary is really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The vocabulary list features the definite article, though some grids also have the indefinite article / plurals for additional challenge. Grids 1-4 are French-French, where students are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list to complete. Grids 5-8 are English-French, where the prompts are given in English, and students look for the French translation in the grid. They also write the French translation of the English word. Grids 9 and 10 prompt students with a specific Christmas image, and they look for the corresponding French word in the grid, also completing a French vocabulary list for additional consolidation. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches and answer keys are in portrait format, with arrows indicating in which direction the individual words are located. There is an alphabetical French-English Christmas vocabulary list which students find really helpful. There are two formats: search grids and answer keys together, so that they can be printed out and copied double-sided, and search grids / answer keys as separate files. Italian Christmas Io ho… Chi ha… ? is a whole-group lively and communicative language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompts of the Italian Christmas images, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing Italian Christmas vocabulary. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to arrange the cards in the relevant order. Students can either create a human chain, holding the cards themselves, or a card line, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are 32 Italian Christmas words with images, and it’s likely that students will have more than one card each per game, depending on the size of the class. The vocabulary and images provide a really useful stimulus for discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in Italian-speaking countries. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: the nouns written out in full with the definite article, and the Q & A Io ho… Chi ha…? Students walk around, calling out the question. = Challenge 2: the nouns are in a different order, with only the definite article, and the Q & A ***Hi…? Sì (No), io ho…***. This challenge puts students’ vocabulary recall to the test, and students walk around, addressing other students individually. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. French Europe 2 multiple-choice quizzes Ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their French language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their French vocabulary. Play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge. The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through. There are two quiz challenges: = Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from. = Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries. French Europe Posters are really useful for creating and instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe in French. There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in French showing European countries, capital cities and flags. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School / departmental licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for cross-curricular learning in Spanish class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe through classroom decor, really making the most of learning display. There are 134 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in Spanish showing European countries, capital cities and flags, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. At the same time, they are developing their Spanish language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their Spanish vocabulary. We regularly ask questions during Talk Time, such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Barcelona es la capital de España? - I’ve found this to be a really effective way of promoting speaking in Spanish class, as students tend to find this a really challenging skill, particularly at the beginning of their Spanish learning program. There are several countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. There are also two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as República Francesa - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Francia to display. Laminate the posters if you can - they display more effectively, and will remain in excellent condition for years, especially if you use them as flashcards to introduce Europe in Spanish class. There are two formats to choose from - Europe map, or plain without frame to keep prep costs to a minimum. The Lively Learning Classroom offers a wide range of Spanish resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN VIAJE!
