    Bearings

    Lesson presentations and activities

    • Simple set of slides to demonstrate finding bearings when given some information, and locating things when given two bearings. Follows on from my introduction resource.
For worksheets covering foundation, higher, measuring, trigonometry etc, plus a plenary/revision quiz, go to my premium resource. This contains a whole selection of questions adapted from exam questions, and covers the whole of this aspect of the syllabus.

Thank you for sharing the slides, they are very straight forward and helpful for GCSE Foundation students.

    • The link on the first page is a short video showing how bearings are useful in a real life application.
For task 3 I give students a tube map (the small leaflet style that you can pick up in tube stations) - this saves on colour photocopying if you can get a bundle at once!

Please leave a comment if you find it useful!

    • Jack Sparrow has hidden some treasure on an island. Students need to follow the bearings to locate the treasure. Answer: Hangman's Tree. Plenary task also uses the map and is a revision aid for other aspects of the angles topic. It is a rolling powerpoint, timings may need to be changed depending on the ability of the group.

This was terrific for my year 7's. I was looking for a short 1-lesson intro to Bearings (that they will cover in Y8). And they really enjoyed this. Thanks.

Just what I needed. Thank you!

      Many thanks!

    • Students must use the clues and a map to work out where the treasure is hidden in a fictitious town. Involves lots of measuring/drawing bearings.

Feedback below is gratefully received :)

    • This interactive application has been designed to teach pupils to accurately estimate and draw a bearing. The application allows the practice of drawing bearings and the estimation of bearings. A worksheet is provided in both PDF and Word. Follow the links to the Cymru website to use interactive activities.

A great set of problems for students to apply their knowledge and skills with.

    • Five differentiated worksheets (with detailed solutions) that allow students to take the first steps, then strengthen and extend their skills in working out bearings from diagrams. These sheets are good to use in class with younger students, but also make a great homework.
