This brand new year-long scheme of work is taken from the EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme.
It consists of 36 lessons taught over six half terms, following the PSHE Association’s suggested themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships Education, and Living in the Wider World.

Year 4 - Respectful Behaviour

Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Respectful Behaviour. This unit builds on prior learning, helping students understand how kindness, inclusion, and respect support positive relationships and communities. In Year 1, we explored small acts of kindness through Be Kind by Pat Zeitlow Miller. In Year 2, we learned how kindness can spread through Kindness Grows. We also explored unkind words, the importance of including others, and had an introduction to bullying with One by Kathryn Otoshi. In Year 4, we build on our understanding of prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes from the previous unit, as we explore different types of bullying, including those involving hateful comments about identity. We will also learn how to prevent bullying and reflect on the impact of our words and behaviour on others. Year 4 Primary PSHE Spending Wisely
Primary PSHE - Year 4 - Spending Wisely Scheme of Work This 6-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our progressive curriculum builds sequentially year on year, leading to this Year 4 unit on Money and Spending Wisely. This unit will deepen students' understanding of money management, helping them make informed choices about spending and saving. Students will explore key topics such as budgeting, identifying value for money, and understanding the impact of their spending decisions on both local and global communities through fairtrade. They will also examine advertising techniques and how to spot misleading ads, as well as learn about the risks of gambling. This unit will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make responsible financial choices and understand the broader consequences of their actions. In Reception, we celebrated differences through Incredible You by Rhys Brisenden. In Year 1, we explored our identities, strengths, and interests. In Year 2, we learned about diversity through Same but Different Too, identifying similarities and differences between ourselves and others. In Year 3, we focused on identity, learning about our ethnicities, nationalities, and roles as citizens. In Year 4, we will deepen our understanding of diversity and the importance of celebrating differences, before exploring new topics such as prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes. In Year 3, we focused on age-appropriate content and online privacy. In Year 4, we will examine limiting screen time, explore age restrictions, improve online communication skills, and recognize harmful content. Year 4 - Healthy Living PSHE

In Year 1, we learned about the importance of handwashing, healthy foods, dental care, and staying active. In Year 2, we explored healthy habits such as bedtime routines and brushing our teeth, alongside understanding the safe use of medicines. In Year 3, we looked at how food, hydration, and lifestyle choices impact our health. Now, in Year 4, we will continue this journey by focusing on how our bodies respond to illness, how vaccines and medicines protect us, and understanding how factors like germs, allergies, and drugs can affect our well-being. Year 4 - Growing and Changing

Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Growing and Changing. This unit deepens pupils’ understanding of their bodies, emotions, and personal care as they grow. In Reception, Year 1, and Year 3, we explored a range of feelings and emotions, and learned strategies to help manage them. In Year 2, we learned about our brilliant bodies, including external private parts, as well as how to look after our teeth and establish healthy bedtime routines. In Year 4, we build on this foundation by learning about male and female anatomy, focusing on internal reproductive organs. We will explore the changes that happen during puberty - both physical and emotional - and consider how these changes can affect our feelings. We’ll also develop our understanding of personal hygiene and revisit healthy habits, such as dental care and sleep routines, as we think about how to care for our changing bodies. Year 4 - Summer Safety
Primary PSHE - Year 4 - Summer Safety and First Aid Bundle This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Summer Safety. This unit deepens pupils’ understanding of how to stay safe in a variety of situations, particularly during the summer months. In Reception and Year 1, we explored sun safety through engaging stories such as George the Sun Safe Superstar. In Years 2 and 3, we developed our understanding of personal safety, focusing on how to stay safe at home and in the local environment. In the Autumn term of Year 4, we built on this learning with a First Aid lesson about allergies and how to respond in an emergency. In this Summer Safety unit, we continue to build our knowledge by learning about the Water Safety Code and revisiting important topics such as sun safety and staying safe around unfamiliar adults. We will also take part in our third First Aid lesson, which focuses on asthma, understanding what it is, how it affects the body, and how to respond if someone has an asthma attack. Year 4 - Respectful Relationships

Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Respectful Relationships. In Year 1, we explored families and the people who care for us. In Year 2, we focused on friendship and how to be a good friend. In Year 3, we developed our understanding of different family structures and began to explore how to set boundaries in friendships and other relationships. In this Year 4 unit, we continue to build on that learning by revisiting family structures and deepening our understanding of different types of committed relationships, such as cohabitation, marriage, and civil partnership. We will also explore the importance of honesty and trust in healthy relationships, learn what makes a positive friendship, and begin to recognise signs that a friendship may not be healthy.
