Year 3 - Primary PSHE Roadmap

This brand new year-long scheme of work is taken from the EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme.

It consists of 33 lessons taught over six half terms, following the PSHE Association’s suggested themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships Education, and Living in the Wider World.

Year 3 - Healthy Choices

Primary PSHE - Year 3 - Healthy Choices Unit This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Healthy Choices. In Year 1, pupils learned about healthy habits and simple daily routines. In Year 2, this developed into exploring different types of foods and how they help our bodies, as well as identifying healthy and unhealthy habits. In this Year 3 unit, children will build on that knowledge by learning about a balanced diet through the healthy eating pyramid and exploring food groups in more detail. They will also reflect on their own habits and routines, considering how these impact their wellbeing and how small changes can lead to healthier choices. Year 3 - Respect and Boundaries

Primary PSHE - Year 3 - Respect and Boundaries Bundle This 5-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Respect and Boundaries. In Year 1, pupils were introduced to the idea of permission, learning what it means and when it is important to ask for it. They also explored the idea that their bodies belong to them and that they have the right to choose whether or not they want to be touched. In Year 2, this developed into learning about safety rules, understanding which parts of their bodies are private, and being introduced to the idea of bullying through the story One by Kathryn Otoshi. In this Year 3 unit, pupils continue to build on their understanding of personal rights and respectful behaviour. They revisit the idea of permission in greater depth and are introduced to the concept of consent, learning that it means willingly agreeing when someone asks. They will explore different types of boundaries that help keep them safe, including physical boundaries, personal boundaries, and friendship boundaries. The unit also deepens their understanding of bullying by exploring teasing, and helping pupils recognise when playful behaviour can cross the line and hurt someone's feelings. Year 3 - Personal Safety and First Aid

Primary PSHE - Year 3 - Personal Safety and First Aid Lesson Bundle This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Personal Safety. In Year 1, pupils learned simple safety rules for home and school. In Year 2, this developed into recognising hazards in different environments, including the dangers of items like matches, candles, and cooking equipment, as well as how to stay safe at the seaside, when crossing the road, and playing outdoors. In this Year 3 unit, pupils will build on that knowledge by learning how to recognise risks and hazards, understand the basics of fire safety, and know what to do in an emergency. They will also take part in their first First Aid lesson, learning how to respond to burns and scalds. These foundations will be built upon further in Year 4. Year 3 - Media Awareness

In this Year 3 unit, pupils will deepen their understanding of how to stay safe online and make informed choices about the content they access. They will explore how to identify reliable and unreliable sources of information, including how to fact-check what they read. Pupils will also learn about age ratings for TV, films, and video games, and why these exist. Finally, they will examine the role of the news in our lives, why it matters, and how to be responsible consumers of media. In Year 2, we explored how people earn money through the work they do and discussed different types of jobs. In this Year 3 unit, we continue to build on that learning by exploring jobs and careers in more detail. We will learn about the sectors different jobs belong to, the skills needed for different roles, and how studying can lead to qualifications. We will also begin to understand gender stereotypes and why everyone should feel free to choose the job or career that is right for them. Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Identity and Wellbeing. In Reception, we were introduced to basic emotions such as happiness, sadness, and anger. In Year 1, we explored a wider range of feelings and began identifying our strengths and interests. In Year 2, we built on this by recognising what makes us unique and talking about how to care for our mental and physical health. In this Year 3 unit, we continue to build on that learning by developing simple strategies to regulate our emotions, including how to re-frame negative thoughts. We will explore the benefits of exercise for both body and mind, and begin to look at our identities in more detail. This includes learning about ethnicity and nationality, and thinking about the values, interests, and beliefs that help shape who we are.
