Primary PSHE - Volunteering, Helping Others and Community Responsibilities

A one-hour, detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson designed for Year 3 (Lower KS2). This lesson focuses on understanding the importance of volunteering and taking on community responsibilities. In this lesson, students will explore what it means to volunteer, why volunteering is important, and how it contributes to the wellbeing of our communities. They will discuss different volunteer roles and reflect on how these actions benefit others.

The lesson includes a case study-based starter activity, a retrieval task, an information sheet, a video clip with reflection questions, a main task that is based on the scenario of helping the residents at a local nursing home, and a reflective plenary.

The lesson is fully aligned with the DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020/21 guidelines, with a detailed PowerPoint presentation, editable worksheets, and tasks that cater to different learning styles. The resources are designed to be ‘no prep’, allowing you to simply pick them up and use them in class, but are flexible enough for easy adaptation if needed.

Year 3 - Responsible Citizens

Primary PSHE - Year 3 - Responsible Citizens Lesson Bundle This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the [ EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme](/teaching-resource/primary-pshe-package-12645709). Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Responsible Citizens. In Reception, pupils learned about classroom rules and the importance of being good listeners. In Year 1, they explored safety rules at home, school, and in their local area. In Year 2, this developed into learning about wants and needs, and how community helpers can offer support when needed. In this Year 3 unit, pupils will deepen their understanding of what it means to be a responsible member of their community. They will investigate the difference between rules and laws, and explore their rights, such as the right to education and safety, and the responsibilities that come with them. Pupils will also reflect on how everyone plays a role in looking after others and shared spaces, and learn how giving time and effort through volunteering can make a positive difference. You can find the scheme of work here: [Year 3 - Responsible Citizens SOW](/teaching-resource/year-3-responsible-citizens-scheme-of-work-13248353) The unit includes the following lessons: [1.
