The Place of Madness synopsis:
Martin Ellis is having his parole hearing and is quickly denied by the review panel. Ellis gives details on the terrible conditions of the prison and how the guards beat them. He provides a detailed account of the horrors of solitary confinement. The chairman argues that prisons should be harsh so there is no further discussion. One member of the panel, Dr. Blalock, has compassion for Ellis and asks to see the solitary cell. Blalock is brought to the basement and examines the cell. He then asks to be placed in it for a few hours. The board members agree. As time passes, Blalock feels the effects of the darkness and isolation. He then wonders how much time has passed and if anyone will release him? Was it a trap? Will Blalock survive his time in solitary confinement? Find out in The Place of Madness readers’ theatre unit!
