The Catch - 9 lessons- Rainforest video clip

The Catch is a popular wordless video clip about a young boy in the rainforest trying to catch a fish for his village. (A link is included.) The PowerPoint details each of the 9 sessions and resources are provided for the comprehensions, lesson activities, art lesson and homework task.

Session 1 – introduce the clip. ​ De-plan as a class onto a story mountain. ​

Session 2 – Identify emotions. Write sentences about the feelings of the character. ​ Plot on a graph

Session 3 – comprehension on a story retelling the video clip– including focus on language features / the author’s choice of words. ​

Session 4 – Comprehension on the Yanomani tribe

Session 5 - Identify the features of a playscript. Answer questions on a playscript. ​

Session 6 – change the story into a playscript. ​ including differentiated sheets

Session 7 and 8 - write your own playscript based in the Amazon rainforest. Plan on a story mountain and write. (LA use provided story plan)​

Session 9 – Act out their playscripts.​
