Black Hole of Calcutta - “history mystery” activity including eight sources. Students fill in a table for each source and come to a decision about what really happened. Focuses upon evaluating the usefulness and reliability of evidence.
Indian Mutiny (First War of Independence) - cut up/separate the questions from the answers. Students then have to find their “partner” as quickly as possible. Final question is open-ended to facilitate discussion.
The Raj -“living graph” activity which invites students to reflect on the experience from the perspectives of both the Indians and the imperialists. Extension option is splitting Indians into pro- and anti- British.
