Get ready to challenge your eyes and your brain in this fun, hands-on colour theory workshop using sweets like Skittles or Smarties! Perfect for students exploring lighting design, this activity shows how coloured light affects our perception of colour—and it’s trickier than you think!
You’ll visit three coloured light stations—Red, Green, and Blue—each with a pile of sweets and a sorting sheet. Under each coloured light, your task is to sort the sweets by what colour you think they are. But beware—what looks green under red light might surprise you in daylight!
After visiting all three stations, we’ll reveal the sweets under white light so you can check how accurate your guesses were. Use your scorecard to mark your correct answers (✓), and reflect on what you learned about additive colour mixing and perception.
Why sweets? They’re fun, familiar, and add a playful twist to a serious design concept. For a more hygienic alternative, you can also use coloured beads—same challenge, less sugar!
Includes:
- PowerPoint slides to introduce colour theory and additive mixing
- Printable sorting sheets for each RGB station
- Individual scorecards for tracking guesses and correct answers
Fun, interactive, and surprisingly tricky—this workshop will leave students thinking twice about colour in stage and screen lighting!
